Today on World Stroke Day we are proud to share with you our recently refurbished Stroke Rehabilitation Kitchen on our Stroke Unit (E1) at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust

This dedicated homelike space allows patients to practice daily living skills like making a cup of tea, alongside our Occupational Therapists.

It was a pleasure to welcome Mike Sweeney and BBC Radio Manchester colleagues to our stroke rehabilitation unit, where they were broadcasting live this morning, and speaking to our stroke unit colleagues, volunteers and patients.

BBC Radio Manchester have been promoting a number of local awareness programmes during World Stroke Month, and Mike Sweeney has been drawing on his own experience of experiencing a stroke earlier in the year.

Medical consultant, nursing and therapist colleagues were all able
to give their perspectives, together with volunteers and patients. Mike was also put through his paces with our exercise rehab equipment, and was presented with a surprise certificate by our staff.

We’re so proud of our apprentice chef Joe Omolo for making it to the finals of the national NHS Chef of the Year competition this week. 19 year old Joe has followed in the footsteps of his chef mother to form part of the bright future of NHS catering, and the judges think he has performed fantastically. He follows in a long line of success from our catering team in the competition. Well done Joe!

It’s National Pharmacy Technician Day and today we celebrate our dedicated pharmacy technicians across Greater Manchester! 💙

If you’re not very familiar with this role, here’s a chance to hear from our Pharmacy Technicians working across the partnership about what a typical day looks like and why their work is essential.

A selection of answers from the 8 local Pharmacy Technicians we asked...
- “A typical day for me is supporting the quality, delivery and uptake of nationally commissioned pharmacy services to improve health outcomes.”
- “I am advising patients on medicines … contributing to patient safety through accuracy checking, dispensing, and helping them make informed decisions.”
- “I am analysing prescribing data to support cost effective prescribing, reduce waste and guide system-wide optimisation of medicines.”
- “My role includes final-checking of medicines and working in strategic system leadership to help improve how medicines are used across Greater Manchester.”

Thank you to all the Pharmacy Technicians in Greater Manchester.
