Jill Schofield Counselling & Psychotherapy

Jill Schofield Counselling & Psychotherapy Jill Schofield, Ad.Dip.PC, MNCS Acc. Based in Marple Bridge. I work with individuals for therapy in the Stockport and Cheshire areas.

In-person, online and telephone counselling available. I specialise in all issues related to personal development, career, relationships, life transitions and any of the stuff that is keeping you from living your best life. A psychotherapist is trained to listen to their client and to understand their needs. The relationship built between the therapist and client is an incredibly positive one; it is based on a solid foundation of honesty, trust and acceptance with the mutual aim of the client reaching a better, healthier level of happiness and contentment. I work with issues such as:

• Relationship difficulties
• Career matters
• Sexuality
• Confidence and Self Esteem
• Grief and loss
• Stress
• Bereavement

I am an Integrative Therapist. This means that I prefer to use various therapeutic approaches when working with my clients, rather than limiting myself to just one. Here is a list of the different therapeutic approaches I utilise during my sessions:
Psychoanalytical Therapy (Exploration of our past. Often the focus is on the formative years of childhood and upbringing. Understanding the impact it has on our current feelings and actions)
Person Centred Therapy (Allows the client to be the catalyst for their own healing and changes. The therapist provides guidance for the client to discover solutions from within themselves)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Recognising faulty or negative patterns of behaviour and enabling the client to replace them with healthier and more successful behaviours)
Psychodynamic Therapy (Focuses on unconscious feelings and defence mechanisms such as denial, repression and resistance. The client learns to recognise, understand and process these feelings)

Each therapy session lasts for 60 minutes. The content and the pace of every session is entirely flexible and will reflect your mood, motivation and circumstances. During a session I like a more relaxed approach where we simply talk about pressing issues and see where our conversation takes us.

Today is the start of Mental Health Awareness Week 2024.

Moving more for your mental health is the theme and as summer approaches this is definitely an idea we could all buy into.

Whether it’s a country walk in the fresh air, playing sports, a spot of gardening or even just a few stretches while you wait for the kettle to boil…movement can help our overall well-being and mindset.

Even small changes can make a difference. What do you think?

The festive season is challenging and often exhausting if you struggle with boundaries or clear communication, especially with loved ones.

Setting boundaries creates trust and builds healthy relationships.

Good communication increases our self esteem and inner confidence.

Make 2023 the year you finally decide to put your own well-being first.

It can feel incredibly positive and empowering to focus and plan the future and your path forward.

So what does the new year and 2022 mean to you?

Sometimes energy runs out. Inspiration runs dry. Patience runs thin.

Thats just how it works. There's no shame in needing to replenish and recharge.

Not surprisingly there are increased levels of stress and anxiety around us all and the need for us to take extra self-care during this current public health crisis.

My practice in Marple Bridge is currently accepting new face-to-face clients as usual.

However, should this situation need to change I can also offer alternative ways to continue counselling sessions via the telephone or video/online conferencing.

Please feel free to get in touch to arrange a free introductory session.

What’s one way that you can take care of your mental health today?

Is it getting an early night? Talking to a trusted friend? Maybe drinking more water? Relaxing into a bubble bath?

You cannot ‘pour from an empty cup’ so make sure you are doing enough to take care of yourself.

One day, seeking a therapist because you’re feeling low will be as normal as visiting a doctor when you have flu.

Until then, we continue to raise attention of World Mental Health Day.
