A while ago I got an email from Milly Khan, a Neuro-Physiotherapists working at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital explaining the benefits of high intensity exercise for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

In her message she said: "You may not be aware but high intensity exercise is really important for Parkinson’s patients, especially those in the early stages of the disease. When people work at a high HR level an amazing chemical called BDNF is released within the brain.

This chemical increases the brain's ability to change and adapt. Recent research suggests that doing 30-45 minutes of high intensity exercise 3x a week can create new neural pathways in the brain. This supports the theory that exercise may slow the progression of Parkinson’s but more research is needed to confirm this. Either way, exercise has shown to improve people’s walking, balance, sleep and quality of life."

Thank you Milly for inviting me to Guys and St Thomas’ to learn more and to film a special workout for people living with Parkinson's 💙

If you would like to try the workout you can find it on my YouTube Channel “The Body Coach TV”

Rest is something that I used to think I could take after I had done everything, Especially being a a mum of 3 and working ,Rest used to make me feel guilty, I wasn’t being productive. I am naturally a very busy person and sitting down doing nothing doesn’t come easy. However, the importance of allowing myself to take rest actually benefits me long term, mentally and physically. Preventing me from burnout and increases my capacity to cope better in daily life. When my children see me taking 10 minutes, they are also learning that it is ok to rest.
Science proves that rest helps the brain repair and rebuild. Even a single day of reduced stress can improve blood flow, support cognitive function, and restore energy levels.
Take time for you✨Pause slow down
Rest is essential 🫶🏼
