Our post at the start of the week was all about what to do if you are unsure if you are safe to drive.

We prioritse safety across everything we do from the processes and spaces the team work within to the design and installation of the product.

In this recent feedback it was wonderful to hear that the driver felt safe now they were back driving with adaptations.

We had already designed and installed a boot hoist into the long wheel based (LWB) version of the Citroen Spacetourer but from experience we were aware that in most instances variations in vehicle body means variants of our products.

This meant that when we got an order for this shorter version from J & A Rigbye & sons - Citroen we brought it into our workshop to ensure the design was accurate for this vehicle too. We had to make some changes due to different fixing points being available but we now have the design for both the LWB and MWB variants.

The Spacetourer models are also available with different seating arrangements depending on vehicle specification so if you are interested in a hoist in one of these vehicles, please give us a call with your preferred body length and model spec and we will be able to advise on the loading capabilities of the hoist.

The Jaecoo 5 was the second of the Jaecoo cars to arrive in the UK following the launch of the Jaecoo 7 approximately 18 months ago.

We have now designed our push/pull brake/accelerator hand control for the Jaecoo 5 and we hope to design further products for this model over the coming months.

If you have had a change in circumstance or if you are concerned about your driving, making the decision about whether an adaptation will assist, if re-training may be beneficial, or if stopping driving is the safest option is best made with professional opinion.

Our latest article about what happens during a driving assessment will hopefully give you some confidence around the process that will be followed and the benefit of going for an assessment if you have any concerns.

If your doctor has raised any concerns following a recent medical incident, they can refer you for a driving assessment and the costs of the assessment will be covered.

This push/pull brake/accelerator hand control design on the Kia K4 is one of many designs completed in the first few months of this year on the Kia range.

Kia have released several new models over the last 12 months, many of which we now have adaptations designed for, with this K4 joining recent EV4 and PV5 hand control designs.

Earlier this week we spent some time with driving instructors who were preparing for adapted vehicle test drives.

We went through the adaptations, what was installed on each car, the different options and how they worked.

It was warm but we are thankful that the sun shone as the whole session was outside.

Here is a recent install of a boot hoist into a Volvo XC40 for Lookers Volvo

This customer wanted to load a Batec (a handbike to be used in conjunction with a wheelchair) rather than a wheelchair or mobility scooter. Our engineer designed a special bracket and a bespoke attachment on the hoist to enable this to happen.

This means the Batec can be lifted in a stable way, enabling the customer to guide it smoothly into the boot of the car.

How do I put my mobility scooter in my car?

This is a question we get asked regularly as people find their mobility scooter too heavy to lift.

Some people can get their mobility scooter in to the car by breaking it down into its individual sections and lifting each one in but for others these components are still too heavy or dividing it up is too much work.

Most mobility scooters can be loaded into the boot of a vehicle using a car hoist as long as the dimensions work for the combination.

These hoists operate via a powered remote control that will lift the mobility scooter up and into the car, taking the weight of the mobility scooter for you. Lifting points, often in the form of a bracket attached to the mobility scooter, will be created and fitted so the car hoist can be attached to the mobility scooter to lift it in a balanced and safe way.

Depending on the size of your mobility scooter and the size of your vehicle, you may still need to disassemble some portions of the mobility scooter. It was great to hear this week how a transfer plate had made such a difference to how a customer felt about getting out and about.

One of the features of our transfer plate is that it is adjustable to be able to be setup to suit the users requirements. After trying the transfer plate, this customer asked for it to be set at a specific height and this has made a big difference to how easy they find it to get into their car.

All our products are manufactured at our premises in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

Following the design of a product by our design team, every process from the cutting to the welding to the coating happens in-house and is completed by our fantastic production team.

This week they have each had the opportunity to visit the MACH Exhibition at the The Nation's Experience Capital to meet with suppliers of some of our current machinery and to look at what new technology is available to assist them in their work.

They all had a great time and have come back with good ideas and things to implement into the part they play in adapting the cars.
