The last Primary School XC race of the season is tomorrow and I am really proud of all our young Combined Event athletes who have used these races as part of their Endurance training over the Winter months.
I am delighted that as a group we have introduced these races to individuals, who had previously never done XC and I'm glad to hear that they have enjoyed the new experience as part of their DEVELOPMENT!
I hope that on this occasion I am allowed to highlight our Year 6s for which tomorrow will be there final ever race as Primary School athletes. The Outcomes that I highlight below speak for themselves, whether it be final finishing positions or best ever results achieved. What I would like to stress is the PROCESS by which these Outcomes are being achieved. The attitude for a start, by this young group of athletes, to their Endurance training, is absolutely Phenomenal. Secondly, these athletes do not turn up for training and just do Endurance, Early Specialisation is not what we believe in for a multitude of reasons. They are all Combined Eventers and will remain so during their DEVELOPMENTAL years. As such and just as one example, Flo, Jack, William & Zari were NOT doing an Endurance session on Monday, they were working on their Speed, Flexibility (mobility), Coordination and Strength (Plus many other things!!) through a sprint hurdles session.......William & Zari then went on to a Shot session on Tuesday.....etc etc If you then throw into the equation winter illnesses; niggly injuries (mainly growth related); frequency of training.........etc etc etc then I'm sure you will all agree with me that the results below from our year 6s are really Outstanding! Congratulations Flo, Zari, Will, Jack & Harry!!!! These results should serve as real inspiration to the whole group!
I am extremely Proud of you and thank you for keeping to a well planned & defined Training & Competition schedule that has the Long Term as it's Priority. I once heard a coach say " I have a fantastic endurance athlete who is 20 years old...........How do I get her into Steeplechase!?" You won't need to ask that question with regard to the athletes below as they have been doing Endurance & Hurdling from a very young age!!!
I hope we have a massive turn out from the group tomorrow and Enjoy the event for ALL THE RIGHT REASONS!
Finally, a massive thank you to Stockport Harriers who continue to organise this fabulous event/opportunity for young athletes in the area!
