A small change… but an ongoing concern. ⚠️

Back in 2017, I visited Sketchers and raised a concern about the large bubblegum machine placed at children’s height in store. The gumballs were roughly the size of a cherry tomato, a well-known choking hazard for young children.

I spoke to staff at the time and followed up with several emails to Skechers, but unfortunately never received a reply.

Fast forward to a couple of days ago and I visited again. I’m pleased to see there is now at least a warning sign on the machine.

However, the machine is still positioned where young children can easily access it themselves.

🍬 These gumballs are exactly the sort of size that can block a child’s airway.
⚠️ Children shouldn’t be able to take them without parental supervision.
🤝 All industries share responsibility when it comes to reducing choking risks.

Ideally, machines like this should be accessible to parents only, so they can decide when (or if) it’s appropriate to give one to their child.

I’ve attached two photos one from 2017 and one from this week.

Progress? Yes, a little.

But there’s still more that could be done to keep children safe.

January 2020 New year, New you

It’s been a long year 2019, we have met some amazing people along the way! Our students will never look at it like this, however you are our work colleagues. We’ve met some really nice people this year and they have opened their hearts up to us, thank you.

For those who aren’t aware, Manchester First Aid Training was set up by Jo-Anne in 2011. After being trained herself and going through her own personal tragedy she felt she wanted to show others how to save someone, that she did :)

All the confusing subjects have been ripped to bits and put back together to make things simple for those she trains. Now 2020 the business is thriving and better system have been put in place. She started on her own with a diary and 3 Manikins, now over 150 QCPR manikins and lots of training equipment she and her trainers hit the industry hard with hands on fun first aid.

However in 2020, Jo-Anne wants to make workplaces open their eyes up to First Aid for Mental Health. On the course she and the team will be going through how to recognise someone who suffers from mental health conditions and how to manage and control situations and conversations. How to make small changes your work place to avoid potential mental health conditions
