May marks Mental Health Awareness Month.

This month is about raising awareness, challenging stigma, and opening up more conversations around mental health.

The more we talk, the more we understand, and the less alone people feel.

If something’s been building up, it’s okay to reach out.

We’re here when you’re ready.

April is Stress Awareness Month.

Stress doesn’t always look obvious. Sometimes it can show up as difficulty relaxing, feeling on edge, changes in sleep, low energy, or struggling to focus.

Taking a moment to check in with ourselves can help us better understand what we might need.

If things feel like they are building up, support is available. Mode Rehabilitation offers free, confidential mental health support in a safe and supportive space to talk things through.

This month we’re recognising the leadership of our Chair of Trustees, Sebastian Gerrard.

At Mode Rehabilitation, the strength of our work is guided by the experience, leadership, and commitment of our Trustees.

Over recent months we have highlighted the contributions of Captain Matthew Totton and Brigadier Mike Taylor, and this month we would like to recognise our Chair of Trustees, Sebastian Gerrard ESQ, whose leadership and vision continue to help guide the direction of our organisation.

Sebastian served for six years in the King’s Royal Hussars, operating as a Challenger tank crewman and undertaking a variety of dismounted roles, including operational service in Northern Ireland. Following his military career, he returned to restart the family business Gerrards of Swinton, working in haulage and building projects across the UK.

He later went on to found and develop several businesses across sectors including telecommunications, green energy, training, and consultancy. Among his innovations is the development of green hydrogen technology, created in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University.

Alongside his business work, Sebastian has remained deeply committed to community and charitable initiatives. His efforts have included supporting local sports teams, funding playground equipment for schools, installing defibrillators for local churches, and most recently helping over 600 ex-forces personnel access housing, training, and employment opportunities.

As Chair of Trustees, Sebastian brings a wealth of leadership experience, entrepreneurial insight, and a strong commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. His guidance continues to play an important role in supporting Mode’s growth and ambition to expand its support nationwide.

We are incredibly grateful for Sebastian’s leadership and the dedication he brings to Mode’s mission.

Through our Family Focus Programme, we support families of wounded, injured, or sick veterans and service personnel with individual counselling, mentorship opportunities, and practical guidance.

We understand that the challenges faced during service and recovery can affect the whole family, and no one should have to navigate that alone.

At Mode Rehabilitation, the strength of our work is guided by the experience, leadership, and commitment of our Trustees.

Last month we highlighted the leadership qualities of our Trustee Captain Matthew Totton, and this month we would like to honour Brigadier Mike Taylor and express our gratitude for the support and guidance he brings to our organisation.

Commissioned into the Royal Logistic Corps in 1995, Mike has served in operational, command, and strategic roles across the globe, including deployments to Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Somalia. Throughout his career, he has led major logistics and training operations, supported key defence capability programmes, and mentored future officers at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Today, Mike continues to serve in leadership roles within the Defence Sector, advising, mentoring and coaching the senior leadership of overseas defence organisations. Despite often being overseas and balancing an incredibly demanding role, he continues to dedicate his time and expertise to supporting Mode as a Trustee.

His insight, experience, and deep understanding of service life help shape the direction of our work supporting service personnel, veterans, and their families.

We are incredibly grateful for Mike’s ongoing commitment to Mode and the time he continues to give to our mission.
