Come and say hi to Bernard today at Allan’s breakfast cafe ❤️ 9-12pm
💚 Group Spotlight 💚 To celebrate Asda's 60th birthday, Asda Foundation has been awarding grants to 'diamond' community groups and good causes across the UK – including Heaton Norris Community Centre (HNCC), via Asda Reddish.
HNCC provide support to local families that are struggling with issues due to deprivation, offering weekly activities from breakfast clubs to support groups. 💝
This week is also – volunteers are essential for grassroots groups across the UK, enabling them to continue the amazing work they carry out. We recognise the importance of volunteers; the lives they impact and the contributions they make to society deserve to be celebrated. We want to thank everyone who takes the time to support local groups by volunteering.
Bernard from HNCC was nominated for a diamond award for his amazing efforts, when nominating Bernard, Community Champion Laura said: “'Bernard Kivel lead volunteer at HNCC, is an unsung hero, constantly going the extra mile, visiting people in hospital, making sure if he has not seen an elderly person or family, checking in on them, taking food parcels, or bringing them to the community centre for support. No matter what is thrown at him, and the challenges he faces, he has an incredible smile and warm welcome for everyone. I could wax lyrical about Bernard's infectious commitment to making a real impact and he’s changed so many lives for the better.” 💎
When asked about the impact of the funding, Bernard said: “Funding will be used to host courses for Mental Health in the community with cooking and baking classes. This will boost confidence and skills, also will open doors to work, possible gainful employment and a feeling of being worthwhile.”
The group will be using their £1,000 grant to provide training on mental health coaching and mental health first aid for their volunteers. 🧠
