Meet Ross 👋 Our Recruitment Manager

He is the man who keeps all our recruitment bits and pieces running smoother than your morning coffee (with some major help from the team, of course ☕).

From sourcing top talent to making the hiring process feel effortless, Ross is basically our very own talent magnet — while also playing a key role in our wider operational management team. If you’ve joined us, chances are you’ve already experienced his calm, organised approach. Always steering things in the right direction… which makes perfect sense when you learn he used to drive container ships at sea for Eastern Pacific Shipping. Yes, those enormous tanker ships bigger than football pitches that carry containers across the world 🌍🚢

Outside of work?
A rugby enthusiast and runner, Ross appreciates both a solid scrum and a solid pint 🍺. His downtime is spent travelling the world, eating and drinking his way through new continents (strictly for research purposes, of course 😉). He’s also our resident chess nerd and part-time brewer. Basically, if there’s a competitive edge or a fermentation process involved, he’s interested.

Here’s to Ross 🍻

Many families notice that their loved one seems to cope better on days when someone visits. It is not always about loneliness in the emotional sense. Often, it is about having someone there to help get the day started, talk things through and take the pressure off.

Deciding what to eat, when to go out, what needs doing and what can wait all takes energy. Having company can gently lift that weight. A conversation, a shared plan or a bit of encouragement can make everyday tasks feel manageable again and help the day move forward more easily.

Care often feels uncomfortable because we picture it as something formal, rushed or clinical.

When it is done well, it doesn't feel like that at all.

It feels like company. A conversation. Someone helping you get on with your day.

That is why care that is built around quality time, familiarity and relationships often feels different. No uniforms, unhurried visits and support shaped around everyday life mean people do not feel “looked after”, they feel supported. For many families, that's the moment care stops feeling like care and starts feeling right.

If you would like to explore support that fits around real life in Cleveland, speak with our team on 01642 309650 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/cleveland.

Have you noticed how the music people love most often comes from the same time in their life?

For many of us, it is the songs we listened to in our late teens and early twenties. There is a reason for that. During those years, the brain is especially responsive to emotion and identity, which means those songs become deeply linked to how we felt and who we were becoming.

That is why familiar music can be so powerful, particularly for people living with dementia or other neurological conditions.

For our Care Professionals, something as simple as putting on a favourite song during a visit can open up conversation, lift mood and bring back meaningful memories. It can be a lovely starting point for talking about what that music means to someone and the moments it takes them back to.

Care Pro Drop-In Day is in full swing, and it’s great to see friendly faces and catch up in person ✨

There’s still time to pop in for a coffee and a natter if you can make it or are passing by.

We’d love to see you! 💛

Parkinson’s is often associated with shaking, but many people are surprised to learn that it can also affect movement, balance, mood, sleep and energy levels.

These changes can vary from day to day, which is why living with Parkinson’s is rarely about one single symptom, but about how everything fits together in everyday life.

Support at home can make a real difference. From helping someone keep moving safely, supporting routines and confidence, to offering companionship and reassurance on more difficult days, the right support adapts as needs change and helps people remain independent for longer.

If you would like to talk about tailored support for someone living with Parkinson’s, our team in Cleveland is happy to have a friendly conversation on 01642 309650, or you can find out more at homeinstead.co.uk/cleveland.

More and more people find themselves caring in every direction at once. Supporting children, helping ageing parents and managing work and everyday life in between. This is often called the sandwich generation and many people do not realise they are part of it until the pressure starts to build.

Caring in this way can be rewarding, but it can also be exhausting. Sometimes support is not about stepping away completely, but about creating breathing space. A short period of help at home can give families time to regroup, protect routines and keep everything else moving without feeling stretched to breaking point.

If you are juggling caring responsibilities and wondering what support might help, speak with our team in on 01642 309650 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/cleveland to learn more about our respite care in Cleveland.

🌟 Outstanding Contribution – Ruth Smith 🌟
Some people don’t just do a job — they change lives.
Ruth has been part of the Home Instead Cleveland family since 2017, and her kindness, compassion and selflessness have touched countless lives. From helping a client fulfil a lifelong dream by creating a precious life story for her granddaughter, to supporting communities and bringing joy far beyond her role, Ruth goes above and beyond every single day.
What makes Ruth truly extraordinary is that her care doesn’t stop at work. Recently we have had members of the public contact us to call out her community contributions to local families and children over the Christmas period once again.
Beyond this she has demonstrated inspirational acts of quiet courage and compassion — which even extends to saving lives through her own sacrifices. Ruth has made such a large impact for so many and for these inspirational contributions we salute you.
Thank you, Ruth.

When families think about care, it is easy to focus on the person who comes through the door.

What often brings real reassurance is knowing there is a whole team behind every visit.

From thorough training and ongoing support for Care Professionals in Cleveland, to clear communication, supervision and continuity, it all works together to keep care safe, consistent and reliable.

That structure matters. It means visits are not just about the moment, but about noticing changes, sharing information and making sure support continues to feel right over time. It is care that is supported properly, not just delivered.

To find out how our team supports every care visit in Cleveland, call our team on 01642 309650 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/cleveland.

✨ Meet Claire Fryett… and the fam! ✨

Claire is our amazing Scheduling Queen, logistics legend and the ultimate plate-spinner behind the scenes. She leads the scheduling team and somehow keeps on top of the daily puzzle of hundreds of care visits across Teesside — matching the right carers to the right clients, while juggling all the inevitable last-minute changes that come with it.

Calm, organised and completely unflappable (even when the schedule says otherwise!), Claire makes a seriously complex job look easy and is a leader within the organisation.

Fun facts about Claire:
👑 Middlesbrough born and bred
🎓 Studied Social Work at university in Hull
👶 Mum to many (which probably explains her organisational superpowers!) — returned to work early from maternity leave, baby in tow, and briefly turned the office into a creche
🎯 Former Retail Manager, so pressure is nothing new
📦 A continual flow of daily Amazon deliveries (local record holder)
🍷 Powered by White Zinfandel and Cadbury Mini Eggs
