BLUE SPACES
Being near water reminds us we’re part of something larger, more fluid. It softens our inner critic and makes space for new insight.

So if you're feeling stuck, anxious, or disconnected, consider this: maybe water is your next co-therapist. Why not reach out and book a session.

She sat at the back and they said she was shy
She led from the front and they hated her pride
They asked her advice and then questioned her guidance
They branded her loud then were shocked by her silence

When she shared no ambition, they said it was sad
So she told them her dreams and they said she was mad
They told her they'd listen then covered their ears
And gave her a hug whilst they laughed at her fears

And she listened to all of it, thinking she should
Be the girl they told her to be, best as she could
But one day she asked what was best for herself
Instead of trying to please everyone else

So she walked to the forest and stood with the trees
She heard the wind whisper and dance with the leaves
And she spoke to the willow, the elm and the pine
And she told them what she'd been told, time after time

She told them she felt she was never enough
She was either too little or far, far too much
Too loud or too quiet, too fierce or too weak
Too wise or too foolish, too bold or too meek

Then she found a small clearing, surrounded by firs
And she stopped and she heard what the trees said to her
And she sat there for hours not wanting to leave
For the forest said nothing, it just let her

breathe

I watched the new Iron‑Bru advert today — the moment the little boy declares, *“show the world who you are”* stopped me in my tracks. As a counsellor, that message rings so true. It’s not just a catchy line: it’s a reminder that identity matters. Being seen, being authentic, being willing to let others catch glimpses of who you truly are — all of that is powerful.

Often in life, we hide. We tuck parts of ourselves away — maybe because we fear judgment, maybe because we worry “that other people won’t accept me.” But suppressing those parts comes at a cost: of anxiety, of disconnect, of not feeling quite whole.

In counselling, I believe every part of you deserves to be recognised. The strengths, the vulnerabilities, the dreams, the shadows — every fragment we let into the light brings greater self‑awareness and resilience. Because when you “show the world who you are,” it’s not for others to decide your worth — it’s for *you* to reclaim your story, your presence, and your peace.

If you ever feel unsure about letting parts of yourself show. If you feel you’ve been wearing masks or living in ways that don’t reflect your true self. Or if you’re at the point where you want to explore what being fully seen could feel like for you — I’m here. AtSteer into Counsellinh we help people journey through those shifts. To uncover hidden parts. To grow more confident in being themselves. To heal in ways that let their authentic self shine.

Because you deserve to be seen. And when you are, you can live more freely, more fully, more in line with who you really are. 💬✨

What a courageous and inspirational woman Ann Ming is. A Mother who never gave up fighting to change the law after losing her daughter. I was left in tears and feeling such admiration. Ann's strength of character shone though as she fought institutions that most would be afraid to challenge. She truly is amazing, what a woman.

My neice Daisy would be very grateful if anyone would be willing to complete her short survey to help with her EPQ. Thank you in advance Sue x

I am completing my EPQ on the question ‘Should the NHS be fully privatised’. As part of my research for this project I would like to collect some primary data on public attitudes towards both the NHS and privatisation. Please could you complete the short survey below:

🧠 💭 Food for thought 🧠 💭

It’s in those moments of vulnerability, when you need others the most that you truly see who shows up, and who only adds to the weight you’re already carrying.

The hardest truth is realising that some things, and some people, have to be left behind for your own peace. Change is inevitable, even when it means walking away from what you thought you needed.

However, it is really difficult to walk away from relationships, and friendships, when you think they serve a purpose, when your self worth is on the floor…!

You will accept people making you a second option, you have little to no boundaries, you will pick your battles because you haven’t got the energy to stand up and fight them all. You will burn out, and you will be lonely!

I see this far too often in the therapy room, and I have been this person on the receiving end too. If you allow this behaviour and you have no boundaries people will step on you to make themselves taller.

Here at Steer into Counselling we can help you work on your confidence and self-esteem, to support you in nurturing the relationship you have with yourself, from a self-sabotaging, criticising, unloving one, to a more accepting, respectful, valued one.

By challenging and changing the way you see relationship’s, together we can help shape them into healthy, balanced and supportive environments, instead of, negative, unhealthy, toxic ones.

The hardest part, is learning how to love, accept, value and respect yourself, when you’ve not experienced it, but once you begin to make the small steps to learn how to do that, the next chapter can be a lot smoother.

It is scary, but you won’t be on your own 😊
