Lily, the hearing dog 🐶 in training, is learning to recognise and react to relevant sounds which would be important or even life-saving for the human partnered with her. Whether it is an alarm clock, smoke alarm or a doorbell, she never fails to alert her deaf human.

Dr Susan Mitchell, Head of Policy at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“While there’s no sure-fire way to prevent dementia, which is caused by a complex mix of our age, genes and lifestyle, we know that there are steps we can all take that could reduce our risk.

These include getting our hearing checked.

Research has shown that people with unaddressed hearing loss are five times more likely to develop dementia than those without hearing loss. While we still need more research to fully understand the link between hearing loss and dementia, we’d encourage anyone who has concerns about their hearing to seek support.”
