Supersets… horrible but effective šŸ˜‚

Supersets are a strength training technique where you perform two different exercises back-to-back with minimal or no rest, with a longer break before you repeat the set. This increases intensity and saves time. You can either target the same muscle group (squats then leg extensions) or opposing muscle groups (e.g., bicep curls then tricep extensions) to build muscle, boost endurance, and improve cardiovascular health

The PT industry can be brutal… it’s not guaranteed money. There’s good seasons, bad seasons and everything in between. Holidays…both your own and client holidays go unpaid. Pressure to stay fit and healthy and have a maintain a certain appearance, body weight, size. Keep up to date with all the new information and changes in research… and to get rid of all the unnecessary FAD stuff.

But for me… it’s not about money. Don’t get me wrong, I have bills to pay, I have kids to feed but it’s an industry that I love. Helping others, seeing physical, emotional and mental transformations. That is priceless and why I am so proud to do the work that I do! šŸ’•

The Sugar Cycle:

1) Eat fortified sugar šŸ¬šŸ«
2) Energy Boost šŸš€
3) Energy Crash šŸ’„
4) Crave the sugar
5) Repeat

This cycle can happen in the short space of 20 minutes. Very high energy… but a short burst, which is why it is so easy to lose track of what you consume.

The daily allowance of sugar for an adult is 52g!!! Which sounds a lot….

BUT this is the equivalent to one 500ml bottle of fully loaded coke which shows how easy it is to go over.

Long post alert: weight watchers, slimming world, Atkins, keto… all fad diets and all my worst nightmare when someone says they’re following that diet plan or they’ve followed it before.

In my experience they create unhealthy relationships with food… good food, bad food, counting syns, points, eating as much as you want of ā€œfree foodsā€ and changing that mindset is incredibly hard to do.

Weight watchers and slimming world consultants don’t have any nutrition qualifications aside from the short company training that is provided… which after years of courses, training, research and thousands of pounds spent to get to this level in an industry that has conflicting information thrown out all the time makes the job as a personal trainer so much harder!

There are foods that are better than others and some have a better nutritional value than others. Better fats, better sugars, better cholesterol…. But variation to your diet and a balance between healthy foods and the foods that aren’t as healthy is absolutely okay!!

Enjoy your food, fresh cooked food, the occasional takeaway, snacks that you enjoy but remember balance and consistency is key!!

The more consistently you have crap food, the more consistently you feel crap and won’t get the body and health you are after. The more consistently you eat good foods, the more consistently you feel good and will make your way towards the health and the body you want!

YOUR BODY NEEDS FAT!!!!

Fat keeps us warm, protects organs and provides energy.

Fat is a source of essential fatty acids, which the body CANNOT make itself.
Fat helps the body absorb Vitamin A, Vitamin D and Vitamin E. Important for healthy hair, skin, nails and much more.
These vitamins can only be absorbed with the help of fats.

Keep fats in your diets!!!

Returning to the gym after Christmas can be scary at times… Gym fear doesn’t mean you’re unmotivated—it usually means you care. Here’s some tips to get back in the gym and head into 2026 with a head start šŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

1. Remember lots of people take breaks over the holidays, so many are in the same boat as you.

2. Instead of ā€œI need a full workout,ā€ aim for
30 minutes. Showing up is the win.

3. Go at quieter times if possible. Avoid peak after-school/work hours

4. Remember no one is watching. Most people at the gym are: Focused on their own workout, feeling insecure themselves or just trying to get out of there šŸ˜…

5. Reframe the ā€œChristmas breakā€, you didn’t ā€œruinā€ anything. Rest is important for recovery. Fitness isn’t erased in a few days.

FINALLY… Be kind to yourself
Fitness should be fun, not a punishment
