With the rising temperatures over the next few days, the Doctors at Harley Street Medical Centre would like to make you aware of the dangers that these conditions present.
Why is a heatwave a problem?
Dehydration: Not drinking enough water.
Overheating: Worsens symptoms for those with heart or breathing issues.
Heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Tips for coping in hot weather:
Stay cool: Avoid going out between 11am and 3pm, stay in the shade, wear sunscreen, a hat, and light clothing.
Cool down: Drink cold beverages, avoid alcohol and caffeine, take cool showers, or apply cool water to your skin.
Keep your living space cool: Close windows during the day, open them at night, use fans if below 35Β°C, and monitor room temperatures, especially for those at higher risk.
Who's most at risk?
Older adults (especially over 75 and female).
People living alone or in care homes.
Those with serious or long-term illnesses.
Individuals on multiple medications.
Babies, young children, the bed-bound, those with addictions or Alzheimer's.
People spending a lot of time outside or in hot places (e.g., top-floor flats, the homeless, outdoor workers).
