Hi, I’m Lisa – mum of two, wife, cat mum, currently living in Cheshire East (Although I would love to live by the Sea 🌊)
I wasn’t always a “maternal” person, but meeting my husband completely changed that. Motherhood has been a journey of transformation, courage, and learning how strong I really am.
My first birth experience was a rollercoaster. I was terrified of birth, so I booked a hypnobirthing course – and it changed everything. I learned not only about birth itself but about how strong I really was. I originally planned a home birth… but panicked about the boiler not keeping the pool warm (ha!) and opted for a birth centre water birth instead. My baby had other ideas, arriving at 36+4, and ended up in an undiagnosed breach, meaning a c-section. Despite this, I breastfed for 3½ years – an experience that taught me patience, resilience, and the power of connection.
With my second, I realised how challenging navigating the system can be. I fought for my wishes – first negotiating to be at the birth centre, then pursuing a Home Birth After Cesarean (HBAC). Standing my ground led to the most magical birth of my life. There was a transfer for a retained placenta, but reflecting now, I know much of this could have been handled differently by the midwives.
Postnatal life had its turbulence too – from reflux and an undiagnosed tongue tie to postnatal depression. These experiences opened my eyes to the real struggles many families face. However, even with these challenges we went onto feed until my daughter self weaned.
After volunteering as a breastfeeding supporter with a local charity, I knew I wanted to do more. So in 2023, I trained as a Doula – and it was the best decision of my life. Now, I’m here to support and empower other parents to have the birth and postnatal experience they dream of.
This is a shortened version of the last almost 11 years of my life and I hope to share more of my journey with you as we go along.
