Sometimes, looking back reminds us just how far we’ve come. 💚

Our Equine & Animal Therapy trips as part of the Walk Talk Action Ten Step Programme have created powerful moments of healing, connection, and personal growth.

Spending time with horses and animals offers so much more than a day out — it provides calm, confidence, and emotional support. Research shows that animal-assisted therapy can:

🐴 Reduce anxiety and stress levels
🐴 Lower blood pressure and promote relaxation
🐴 Improve confidence and self-esteem
🐴 Encourage mindfulness and being present in the moment
🐴 Build trust, communication, and emotional resilience

Horses, in particular, are incredibly intuitive animals, helping people develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and a sense of peace.

At Walk Talk Action, these experiences are an important part of our mission to support mental health, wellbeing, and positive life changes. Through every step of the programme, we create opportunities for people to reconnect — with nature, with others, and with themselves.

Sometimes healing doesn’t happen in words… sometimes it happens in quiet moments, gentle connections, and the courage to try something new.

What a day at the WTA Retreat 🌿☀️

We were blessed with perfect weather and an incredible turnout of 34 volunteers who came together to care for a place that means so much to so many.

The energy, teamwork, and dedication on show was truly inspiring. Across the retreat we saw:
🌱 Grass cutting & strimming
🌿 Hedge cutting and tidying
🛠️ Path maintenance
🌼 Weeding and general upkeep
🏡 A full cabin dismantled to make way for a better, more organised storage space

Every task, big or small, played a part in keeping this space alive, welcoming, and ready for those who need it most.

And of course… it wasn’t all hard work 😉
We were treated to beautiful chocolate and fresh cream buns made by Tracy, and a fantastic BBQ — with huge thanks to Matthew from Tesco Kidsgrove for providing the food.

A massive thank you to:
💚 VSN for your time and hard work
💚 Regent College for your continued support
💚 George & Tracie for travelling from Dudley and Lichfield
💚 Every single volunteer who showed up and gave their time, energy, and heart

This retreat is more than just a place.
It’s a safe space. A reset. A community. A lifeline for many people who walk through our doors looking for connection, calm, and support.

Days like today remind us that it takes a community to build and maintain something this special — and we are so grateful.

We still have lots to do…
🎨 Repainting cabins
🌲 Cladding them to blend into the environment
🪵 Creating decking areas to bring people together outdoors

If you or your organisation can support us, we’d love to hear from you.

Thank you again to everyone involved — you are part of something truly meaningful ❤️

Today’s Tea & Toast session was one to remember ☕🍞

We were joined by the fantastic team from Everyone Health, with Lisa travelling all the way from Nottingham and Nutritionist Tom from Birmingham to deliver a truly insightful Healthy Eating workshop.

The session was packed with practical knowledge and hands-on learning. We explored the difference between serving size and portion size—something that often gets overlooked but can make a big difference to our daily habits. We also broke down the 5 food groups and why balance really matters when it comes to fuelling both body and mind.

There was plenty of action too. The group got stuck into making their own protein balls—some with peanut butter, others with a touch of honey—alongside creating refreshing health shots using turmeric, ginger, pears, apples, and oranges. Simple, affordable ideas that people can take home and build into everyday life.

We also had some really valuable conversations around diabetes, with practical advice and recipe ideas shared to support healthier choices moving forward.

A few key reminders we took away:

Eating a variety of foods helps ensure your body gets the full range of nutrients it needs—no single food can do it all.

In the UK, due to limited sunlight, it’s recommended that most people consider a vitamin D supplement, especially during autumn and winter, to support bone health, immunity, and mood.

The workshop sparked great discussions, and it was brilliant to welcome new faces along too. At Walk Talk Action, we always make it a priority that everyone feels included—whether that’s through a simple conversation, shared laughter, or just a warm cuppa in hand.

We’re already looking forward to the return visit… especially with the promise of soup recipes and a vegetable curry session 👀

“Connection doesn’t happen through big moments alone—it’s built in the small ones. A conversation, a shared experience, a seat at the table. That’s where people begin to feel they belong.”

That’s what Walk Talk Action is all about 💚

Power of Pausing...

There are moments at the retreat where everything feels loud…
Not on the outside — but in your head.

Thoughts racing.
Questions.
Memories.
Plans.
Worries.

And yet, in the middle of all that… you find a moment.
Just a few seconds where you stop.

You breathe.
You look around.
You notice where you are.

And for that moment — everything softens.

That pause might seem small, but it matters more than we realise.

Research shows that taking time to be present — even briefly — can reduce stress, ease anxiety and improve overall wellbeing. Mindfulness practices have also been found to improve sleep, reduce burnout, and help us manage pressure more effectively.

Even short moments of stopping can help us step out of the cycle of overthinking — bringing us back from the past and the “what if's” of the future, into what’s actually happening right now.

And that’s powerful.

Because most of us don’t struggle due to a lack of strength —
we struggle because we never ever stop.

At Walk Talk Action, the retreat isn’t about switching everything off.
It’s about creating space where you can pause safely.

Through walks, conversations, quiet moments, and shared experiences, we create an environment where it’s okay to slow down…
to breathe…
to just be.

Not forced.
Not rushed.
Just space.

Because sometimes the most important step forward…is the moment you just stop.
