🌞 Stay hydrated in the hot weather this week 💧
With hot weather across the country this week, it’s especially important to make sure you’re drinking enough fluids.

Babies, young children and older adults are more at risk of dehydration, and if it isn’t treated it can become a serious problem.

Look out for signs such as:
💧 Feeling thirsty.
💧 Dry mouth or lips.
💧 Dark yellow urine or peeing less often.
💧 Feeling tired, dizzy or lightheaded.

Remember to drink water regularly throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

☀️ As the weather heats up this weekend, make sure you stock up on sunscreen!
Even when it’s cloudy, UV rays can still damage your skin and cause sunburn. Staying safe in the sun can help reduce your risk of developing skin cancer.

Here are some simple sun safety tips:
🧴 Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and 4-star UVA protection.
🕶️ Wear a hat, sunglasses and lightweight clothing.
🌳 Spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is strongest.
💧 Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.
👶 Take extra care to protect children and babies from the sun.

Visit the NHS website for more information on staying safe in the sun: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/seasonal-health/sunscreen-and-sun-safety/?fbclid=IwY2xjawR8-eZleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETA0WW44d2RQR1lWQktnUjJXc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHo06vVIT7AA6vzrSBbnyhxayPzMa4lHLro4H05kkwqHZnbVJL4Pb6DF5o7Ym_aem_WOQJj3e5tA_3Iv9h62gVZw

🤰 World Pre-eclampsia Day
Today is World Pre-eclampsia Day, a global awareness day dedicated to increasing understanding of pre-eclampsia, a pregnancy related condition that can affect people after about 20 weeks of pregnancy or soon after birth. It’s marked internationally to highlight why early detection and care matter for the health of both mother and baby.

Pre-eclampsia is diagnosed when a pregnant person develops high blood pressure and protein in the urine alongside other signs and symptoms. Many people don’t notice early signs themselves, which is why routine antenatal checks with midwives, GPs and maternity teams are vital for monitoring blood pressure and protein levels.

⚠️ Common symptoms to be aware of include:
• Severe headache that won’t go away.
• Changes in vision (blurred or flashing lights).
• Pain under the ribs.
• Sudden swelling of face, hands or feet.
• Feeling very unwell or nauseous.
If you experience any of these, contact your midwife, GP surgery, or NHS 111 immediately.

🩺 In the NHS, care for pre eclampsia focuses on close monitoring and support, often involving hospital assessment and treatment to control blood pressure and support a safe delivery. Tests such as blood pressure monitoring and urine analysis are part of routine checks that help catch changes early.

❤️ On World Pre-eclampsia Day we thank NHS maternity teams, including GPs, midwives, nurses and specialists for their dedication to providing safe, compassionate antenatal care that helps detect and manage conditions like pre-eclampsia. Your work makes a crucial difference to families across our community.

Let’s use today to raise awareness, support expectant families, and encourage everyone to attend antenatal appointments and speak up about symptoms, early action can improve outcomes for both mother and baby.

🌍Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day, an international awareness day dedicated to raising understanding of digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities and impairments around the world. The campaign encourages everyone, from designers and developers to organisations and service providers, to think about how digital services, websites, apps and online information can be designed to work for everyone, regardless of ability.

Digital accessibility is not just about technology, it’s about equitable access to information, services and opportunities in a world where so much of our health care, support and communication happens online. Millions of people in the UK live with disabilities that affect how they interact with digital content, and simple design choices can make a big difference to usability, independence and inclusion.

For the NHS, accessibility matters for patients and staff alike: ensuring online appointment systems, patient information, self management resources, and health apps are usable for everyone supports better access to care, clear communication, and safer outcomes. Meeting digital accessibility standards is part of providing high quality, person centred services across primary care and beyond, because everyone deserves health information and care that is accessible, understandable and usable.

Today and every day, let’s champion inclusive design, support accessible digital health services, and recognise that accessibility is a key part of delivering equitable health care for all.
