When I opened My Podiatry Clinic on the Hartshill strip back in 2017, I had no real idea where it would lead - only that it wouldn’t be easy.

As we head into a new year, it felt important to say thank you. Over time the clinic has grown, often faster than expected, and we’re now incredibly grateful to be generally fully booked months in advance. That simply wouldn’t be possible without the patients who’ve supported us, stayed with us, and trusted us year after year.

This Christmas, we received cards from patients thanking us not just for treatment, but for the chats and the care. It was a lovely reminder that what we offer goes beyond a private health service.

As we move into 2026, our focus remains exactly the same: dependable, routine podiatry done well. Corns, callus, difficult-to-manage nails and nail surgery. We don’t offer biomechanics or insoles , we enjoy the core treatments and take pride in doing them properly.

There’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes once the last patient leaves, but helping people stay comfortable and mobile makes it worthwhile every time. We’re proud to be a small but steady part of the Hartshill strip. Thank you for being part of the journey.

——Cracking those cracked heels——

Cracked, split skin around the heel area can be tricky to treat. The cracks are often very uncomfortable and the openings in the skin also leave you more susceptible to bacterial and fungal infections.

Regular use of urea based creams at home will help as can regular appointments with your HCPC registered podiatrist. Your podiatrist has the correct tools and skills to reduce and smooth the callus and advise on how you can stop the cracks from appearing again so quickly.

We want you to have crack free, supple skin on those feet ready for when the summer footwear makes an appearance 🩴🩴🌞 . Although please keep in mind that flip flops are not always the best choice if you suffer with cracked heel callus.

Some of the most common causes of ingrowing toe-nails include:

🦶🏼Trauma
🦶🏼Having a wide nail plate
🦶🏼Having a naturally curved nail plate
🦶🏼Tight footwear
🦶🏼Poor nail cutting techniques at home

So how do you know you have an ingrowing nail:

🦶🏼Every step may feel uncomfortable
🦶🏼sometimes even having bed covers resting on the toe will cause discomfort
🦶🏼You may experience a digging or pinching feeling in the skin surrounding the nail
🦶🏼There may be some swelling and redness

How we can help:

👣 If the issue isn’t too advanced and the bothersome nail is easily accessible we can sometimes cut back the spicule of nail that is digging in during a normal routine appointment.
👣If the ingrowing nail is too far advanced, medical history dependant, you may have the option of nail surgery where we can use an anaesthetic to numb the toe and remove the offending piece of nail . This offers a more permentant solution to the issue.

We did a total nail removal for a patient this week and took out quite a sizeable piece of nail to help this individual get back to normal activities.

A lot of people try to manage their foot health at home, which can help to keep callus manageable inbetween podiatry visits . However, the comment we hear a lot is “using a paddle file at home just isn’t the same as coming to see you ”.

So whilst we think home foot files have a place we definitely believe you get a far more thorough treatment in clinic. Plus by coming to see us you get the benefit of expert advice on how to further manage your cracked heels and heavy hard skin and we can often spot other foot issues at the same time too.

Did you know that to ensure you have seamless ongoing care, a portion of your appointment time has to be dedicated to note writing and documentation so that we always have up-to-date records on your foot health, medical status and medication.

As a side note a lot of patients don’t realise as HCPC registered podiatrists we do need to know what medication you are taking and whether you have any allergies as this can very much affect the advice we give, products we recommend or any onward referals we make. This is why prior to you first appointment we always ask you to complete a new patient form so that we can capture this important information.

We are fully digital now so your new patient form will be emailed to you, but we do have paper copies in clinic should you need one.

Please also allow that extra time at your first visit as we will always do a vascular and neurological assessment as well before treating.

Foot care dos and dont’s

Things to do:
🦶🏼Dry inbetween your toes daily
🦶🏼Apply foot cream daily
🦶🏼Inspect you feet regularly for skin changes or any cuts or abrasions
🦶🏼Wear flip flops in public showers /swimming pools
🦶🏼Wear natural fibre socks such as bamboo

Things to avoid:
🦶🏼Sharing footfiles
🦶🏼Sharing footwear and hosiery
🦶🏼Picking and pulling skin off you feet
🦶🏼 Cutting down the sides of your nails….this might cause an ingrowing nail if you don’t know what you’re doing
🦶🏼Wearing the same pair of socks twice without washing them 🙈

Happy new year to all of our patients.

Just a reminder that as your’e making those new year resolutions today don’t forget to add keeping on top of foot health on that list.

We only have one set of feet so treat them well. You’ll need them to fulfil your new years resolutions, be that taking up gym work, travelling a little more or running around after grandchildren or children.

At Foot Centric we pride ourselves on offering good quality routine foot care. This covers things such as regular treatment of corns, callus and thick nails. We also advise on fungal nail and skin infections and can offer treatment and advice for ingrowing nails and cover your annual diabetic foot check.
