At Dougie Mac, caring is at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to support families across North Staffordshire and make a real difference to people’s lives.

We’ve recently expanded our Dementia Services, which means we are now able to help even more people.

Around 7,000 people living in North Staffordshire have dementia, and we know that number will continue to grow every year.

That’s why we offer activity groups, 1-2-1 support and training for those living with dementia and those caring for someone with dementia.

Dougie Mac is always here for you, now for dementia too.

Dougie Mac Inpatient Services have won Placement of the Year at the Keele University 2025 Practice Placement Awards 🏆

Rose Giles, Practice Development Lead Nurse at Dougie Mac, who oversees student placements said: “Students are usually with us for a six-week placement then return to university to do theory work. They have three or four placements a year which can be in a hospice, hospital or out in the community.
“We value the students that come to us. We are invested in them and treat them like a member of the team, so to be nominated by them just shows the support we give has been recognised.”
A huge congratulations too to Danielle Green, who won Student Nurse Associate of the Year - a brilliant achievement and well deserved 👏

Our Story

Dougie Mac is the only adult hospice delivering excellent care for people approaching the end of their lives in North Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding villages.

The hospice was established in 1973 and has grown over the years not only in size but also in the range and amount of care services available for local people. Our consultant led multi-disciplinary clinical team provide specialist palliative/end of life care for people living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses; as well as offering help and support for their families and carers. We do not charge for the care and help we provide, we rely on 75% of our income coming from voluntary donations each year with the rest provided by some statutory funding.

We have no association with any other organisation, even those national charities who share a similar name. Our ability to meet the needs of the community we serve is very dependent on the support of local people, groups, businesses and organisations. Our team of nurses, doctors, healthcare assistants, volunteers, chaplains, social workers, therapists, and support staff care for all the needs of our patients facing a terminal illness: physical, emotional, social and spiritual. Together we aim to help patients both at home and in the hospice to achieve the very best quality of life, whatever their life expectancy, days, weeks or months.
