🏳️‍🌈 February is LGBT+ History Month! 🏳️‍🌈
This February, we celebrate LGBT+ History Month, a time dedicated to recognising the diverse history, achievements and contributions of le***an, gay, bisexual and transgender people and in doing so, promoting equality, respect and inclusion for all.

📘 What is LGBT+ History Month?
First celebrated in the UK in 2005, this month was created to claim our past, celebrate our present and create our future by highlighting stories that have too often been hidden or overlooked and by promoting understanding and acceptance in society.

🔬 2026 Theme: Science & Innovation
This year’s theme shines a spotlight on the contributions of LGBT+ people in science, innovation and discovery, showing how diverse perspectives have shaped the world we live in today. It also encourages us to reflect on the history of how science has sometimes been misused to marginalise LGBT+ identities and to think about how we can create a fairer and more inclusive future.

At our surgery, we are proud to support equality, diversity and a culture of respect, where everyone feels safe, seen and valued. 💛

🎗️ 4 February – World Cancer Day 2026 🎗️
On World Cancer Day, we raise awareness about cancer and to encourage action that can save lives. This international day highlights the importance of prevention, early detection, treatment and supportive care and reminds us that every action, big or small, counts!

🌍 This year’s campaign — United by Unique
The 2025-27 World Cancer Day theme, “United by Unique”, places people at the centre of cancer care. It recognises that each person’s experience with cancer is different, and that we are all united in the shared goal of improving care, support and outcomes for everyone affected.

💪 Why it matters:
• Cancer affects millions of lives worldwide, but many deaths are preventable with awareness and early action.
• Together we can challenge stigma, spread accurate information, and support those living with cancer.
• You can help by sharing stories, learning about risk reduction, checking in with loved ones, and supporting positive change.

📣 What you can do on 4th February:
✔ Talk about cancer awareness with family or friends.
✔ Share reliable info on social media.
✔ Support someone living with cancer.
✔ Take small steps for prevention and early detection.
Every voice and every action can make a difference. 🌟

💚Today is Parent Mental Health Day 💚
Being a parent or carer can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also feel stressful, overwhelming, or isolating at times. Looking after your mental health is just as important as looking after your family.

We are lucky to have two dedicated mental health practitioners supporting our patients in our PCN:
• Jayne, who works with children & young adults (up to 25 years old)
• Emily, who supports adults (aged 26–65).

They help patients who are feeling “stuck,” or experiencing declining mental wellbeing.
If you’re feeling stressed or struggling with your mental health, Jayne, Emily, and our team are always here to listen and support you. You don’t have to face it alone. 💙

📆Every missed appointment is time that could have been offered to another patient.
When appointments are missed without notice, it increases waiting times and affects patients who need care.

If you can no longer attend your appointment, please let the surgery know as soon as possible, even short notice allows us to reallocate the appointment to another patient who may be waiting for care.
You can cancel quickly via your appointment text message, via the NHS App, or by calling the surgery.

Working together helps us provide a fair and efficient service for all patients.💙

🧘‍♀️Mental health is just as important as physical health, and support is available through your GP surgery and our PCN.
Many people experience anxiety, low mood, stress, or sleep problems at some point, and help is available.

❤We are lucky to have two dedicated Mental Health Practitioners within our PCN:
• Jayne, supporting children and young adults up to 25 years old.
• Emily, supporting adults aged 26–65.

Our mental health practitioners can offer assessments, advice, support, and help signpost patients to further care where needed.

🩷Patients can also access and self refer to NHS Talking Therapies, which provide psychological support for common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.
This service can often be accessed directly without a GP referral here: https://www.nhs.uk/tests-and-treatments/talking-therapies/

How much alcohol is safe to drink during pregnancy?

If you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant, the safest approach is not to drink alcohol at all to keep risks to your baby to a minimum.

🚫 No safe time.
🚫 No safe amount.

Whether you're pregnant, planning to conceive, or supporting someone on their pregnancy journey, remember that alcohol can harm the baby. Potential risks include the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

For helpful tips and advice to go alcohol free during pregnancy, or to support a loved one, visit 👉 https://www.drymester.org.uk/ss/
