🚨 Important Patient Update: Meningitis🚨

We are receiving a high volume of enquiries in relation to the Meningitis outbreak. If you are well and your vaccinations are up to date, you don't need to take any action.

Meningitis is an infection that can affect anyone, but early recognition and treatment are crucial. Please seek urgent medical advice if you or your child experience symptoms such as:
• High fever
• Severe headache
• Stiff neck
• Sensitivity to light
• Vomiting
• Unusual drowsiness or difficulty waking
• A rash that does not fade when pressed

For babies and young children, symptoms may also include:
• Floppy or unresponsive behaviour
• High-pitched crying
• Refusing feeds

💉 Vaccination Advice
Vaccination offers the best protection against several common types of meningitis. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/meningitis/vaccination/

Please check that you and your children are up to date with vaccinations.

📞 If you are concerned about symptoms, contact the practice, NHS 111, or attend A&E immediately if symptoms are severe.

We had 89 missed appointments (DNAs) at the practice in January.

We understand that life gets busy and sometimes plans change — but if you can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer the slot to someone else.

Even cancelling on the morning of your appointment can make a big difference.

You can cancel your appointment quickly and easily by:

• Calling the practice and using the check and cancel service, or speak to a receptionist
• Using the link in your appointment reminder text
• Using the NHS App

Missed appointments mean longer waits for everyone. A quick cancellation helps us help other patients.

Thank you for working with us to make sure appointments are available for those who need them most.

We are appealing for information following a fatal non-stop collision in Stoke-on-Trent today (Friday 12 December).

We were called to the incident on the junction of South Drive of Carmountside Crematorium and Leek Road, Milton, by our colleagues at West Midlands Ambulance Service just after 8am.

The collision involved a pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, and what is described as a small blue/grey car similar in size to a Renualt Clio, or ford Fiesta.

The driver of the car did not stop and left the scene, heading towards Abbey Hulton.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital but sadly died shortly afterwards from her injuries.

Her next of kin are being supported by a specially trained officer at this difficult time.

Any witnesses, or those with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, are asked to call 101 or email ciu@staffordshire.police.uk quoting incident number 129 of 12 December.

You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

❄️ Winter Pressures: A Reminder to Be Kind 💙

As we enter one of the busiest periods of the year, our whole team is working exceptionally hard to support patients through winter illnesses, seasonal viruses, and high demand across the NHS.

We fully understand that delays and limited appointment availability can be frustrating — especially when you or your family are unwell. However, in recent weeks we’ve seen a rise in rude, aggressive, and unkind behaviour towards both our reception staff and clinicians.

👉 Our reception team and clinical staff are here to help you.
👉 They follow essential processes to ensure you get the safest, most appropriate care.
👉 They do not deserve to face disrespect, raised voices, or aggression.

Verbal abuse towards any member of our team will not be tolerated.

A small act of patience or kindness can make a huge difference — especially during the winter months when the entire NHS is under immense pressure.

Thank you for treating our team with the respect they deserve so we can continue providing the best care possible.
