There’s a reason chanting feels like it shifts something… and it’s not just spiritual.
When you chant, you naturally lengthen your exhale.
That slower, extended out-breath stimulates the vagus nerve — signalling safety to the body.
Heart rate steadies.
The nervous system softens.
The mind begins to quiet.
Add to that the vibration of sound — especially with “Om” — resonating through the chest, throat, and skull… and you create a powerful internal feedback loop for focus, regulation, and presence.
In simple terms?
Chanting = breathwork + vibration + intention.
And if the Sanskrit or the “singing” part has ever made you hesitate…
this is your reminder:
It’s not about performance.
It’s not about perfection.
It’s about feeling.
It’s about meaning.
It’s about allowing yourself to be heard — even if only by you.
As we head to Northern India on Sunday— towards the land that holds the mythology of Lord Shiva and the energy of Mount Kailash — this mantra feels especially potent:
A salutation to Shiva, the teacher —
whose form is truth, consciousness and bliss.
Beyond the five senses.
Tranquil. Boundless. Radiant.
And here’s the real invitation…
This isn’t something outside of you.
This is your essence too.
Beneath the noise, the roles, the thinking mind…
there is a steady, spacious awareness.
Whole.
Unchanging.
Deeply at peace.
Chanting doesn’t give you that —
it simply helps you remember.
One breath.
One sound.
One return.
