Well today brought back some lovely memories for us! We were at St. Matthias Handford Parish Church, dad used to take us to this church yard each autumn as kids to go 'conkering' he would throw a few sticks/logs up into the tree and watch the conkers fall and enjoy watching us dash about picking up all the conkers that fell, we would take a carrier bag and collect lots of lovely conkers, we would inspect our yield on the way home often bickering in the back seat over who got the biggest conker. Not much has changed we still couldn't help ourselves today we had to pick up just a few!

The head of a company survived 9/11 because his son started Kindergarten. Another man was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts. One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off. Another was late, stuck on the NJ Turnpike because of an accident and his life was spared. One missed his bus. One spilled food on her clothes and had to change. One's car wouldn't start. One couldn't get a taxi. One went back to answer the house phone. A man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning developed a blister before he got to the Towers, so he stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid.
When you're stuck in traffic, oversleep, miss your ride...all the little things that annoy you...maybe you're exactly where you're meant to be at that very moment. May all who perished on 9.11.01 Rest in Eternal Peace & may the loved ones still grieving find strength. 🙏🏼❤️🇺🇸

I recently saw this post and it really made me think: what is life? all the little things we do, our routines, the way we make people feel, the people we talk to; so often it's these beautiful things that make up our life, not big impressive jobs, or milestones, just the Monday to Friday things we do.

"At a small Costa café, the staff reserved a table from 11:15 to 12:15, not for a customer who was running late, but for one who would never return. Ken, a beloved regular, had passed away the week before, and this was his favorite spot. On the day of his funeral, they honored his memory in the simplest, most heartfelt way.
A warm cup of coffee sat waiting for him, a quiet nod to countless mornings spent in that seat. For the staff, Ken wasn’t just a customer—he was a friend, someone whose presence had become part of their daily rhythm. His smile and conversations had left an imprint far beyond his order.
Their gesture spoke volumes about community and kindness, showing that the connections we make in everyday places can run deep. In that empty chair, filled only with love and remembrance, they reminded everyone that people matter more than transactions."

what's a beautiful, thoughtful and fitting tribute from these costa employees ♥

Someone asked me yesterday what happens to a funeral if there is bad weather....
my answer: we carry on.
We will face any weather, we will still be there, still walking, still serving, come rain, snow or shine.❄️🤍🩵

Not everyone wants a traditional funeral and that's okay.
Whether you're considering a quiet farewell, a direct cremation, or simply something more low-key, we understand that every goodbye is personal.
Before you commit to a national provider you've seen on TV, it's worth speaking to your local, family-run funeral director, someone who truly knows and cares about the community you live in.
Here's why choosing local matters:
🌿We take the time to listen. No call centres, no scripts - just compassionate, local people guiding you through every step, with dignity and care. We offer a personal service
🌿We live and work here. When you choose us, you're not just supporting a business - you're supporting a neighbour. And your loved one stays local, too.
🌿 No hidden extras. No hard sell. Just transparent pricing and straightforward guidance, so you can make the right decision for you and your family with clear honest advice.
🌿Want something simple? No flowers? No fuss? No problem. We're here to honour your choices not to upsell services you don't need or want. We respect your wishes.
🌿With years of experience and a name trusted in the community, you'll always deal with someone who knows your story not just your paperwork. You can rely on our support.
🌿Whether you're planning ahead or arranging something now, we're here to help in a way that's calm, respectful and right for you.

Taboos and awkwardness around talking about death and dying can prevent people from being supportive to grieving friends and family. Sadly, this reluctance to mention the ‘elephant in the room’ can result in bereaved people feeling lonely and isolated.
💛 Child Bereavement UK has launched a new animated short film to help support bereaved young people after someone important to them has died.
Whether you’re grieving yourself or being supportive to someone you know, we hope this short animated film will help raise awareness of the difficulties of living with grief and encourage greater compassion and understanding.

In the absence of government regulation, the funeral profession’s trade associations have played an important role in maintaining standards and quality among funeral directors.
This is something we value immensely at Kevin Lownds Funeral Services and it’s why we are a member of the SAIF 'THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF ALLIED AND INDEPENDENT FUNERAL DIRECTORS' SAIF was established in 1989 to support independent, mostly family owned funeral directors.
This membership is a worthwhile annual investment, as it keeps us up-to-date with best practices, benefiting the people who turn to us in their time of need.
We’ve been a member of SAIF since we opened in 2018.
If you’re a member of the public looking for a funeral director, make sure you choose a business that belongs to a recognised trade body.

July 29th is HISTORY DAY!
We started looking at the history of 'Lownds' we found we have a coat of arms, and that our Family name came from "deriving its origin from the Old English word lundr, which means grove" "Grove meaning a small wood or other group of trees."
we were amazed that we were named after a collection of trees when the inspiration for our logo came from 'tree of life' and 'family tree' it left very fitting for us. 🌳💚

Where does your name come from? do you have any interesting family history?
We found it so interesting researching our name☺️
