⏰ Clocks Spring Forward – But What Does That Really Mean for Care? ⏰
Tonight, we lose an hour as the clocks go forward. While it might feel like a small change, in home care it can have a bigger impact than many realise.
For our care staff, this means a shorter night but often the same workload — early starts can feel even earlier, and routines may feel slightly out of sync. Fatigue can creep in, so it’s important to take extra care, stay hydrated, and look after your wellbeing.
For our clients and their families, this time change can be more noticeable, especially for older adults. Even a one-hour shift can:
• Disrupt sleep patterns
• Increase confusion or disorientation, particularly for those living with dementia
• Affect medication timings
• Impact mood and energy levels
The older generation often rely on consistent routines, so this sudden shift can feel unsettling and may take a few days — or even weeks — to fully adjust.
💡 What can help?
• Keep routines as consistent as possible
• Allow extra time for rest
• Communicate clearly about any schedule changes
• Be patient — with yourself and with others
This small change in time is a good reminder of the importance of compassionate, person-centred care. A little understanding and flexibility can make a big difference.
Let’s support each other through the transition 💚
