🌟 Feedback Friday: Celebrating Our Scouts and Leaders!

It’s Feedback Friday, and today we’re shining a light on the incredible world of Scouting — where learning, adventure, and leadership come together to shape tomorrow’s changemakers.

Every week, Scouts across the country take on new challenges, learn practical skills, and grow in confidence. But behind every successful Scout group are the dedicated leaders who make it all happen. From organizing activities and camping trips to guiding young people through life’s lessons, our Scout Leaders embody patience, passion, and purpose.

Their commitment doesn’t just help Scouts earn badges — it helps them build resilience, teamwork, and respect. So, this Feedback Friday, we want to say a huge thank you to all the Scout Leaders who give their time and energy to inspire others.

At Abaucs Training, we’re proud to support these amazing volunteers by providing First Response Training to Scout Leaders across Staffordshire. Our courses help ensure leaders stay up to date with essential first aid skills, keeping Scouts safe and confident on every adventure.

Imagine being told you’ll never read again — and then one day, being able to. That’s exactly what happened to 70-year-old Sheila Irvine, who, after decades of blindness, can now read thanks to a revolutionary eye implant developed at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

This isn’t just a medical breakthrough; it’s a glimpse into a new era of assistive technology that could one day transform how emergency responders and first aiders do their jobs. Imagine paramedics or rescue workers being able to identify patients with restored partial sight — helping tailor support during an emergency. First aid trainers, too, could use this story to emphasize how rapid medical advances are changing what’s possible in patient care and recovery.

While it’s still in trial stages, this technology offers hope — not just for those living with vision loss, but for the future of healthcare and emergency response itself.

The results are astounding and a major advance, say surgeons involved in international research using the pioneering technology.

🌟 Feedback Friday: Why We Love Hearing from Our Clients

At Abacus Training, we believe that great training doesn’t stop at the end of a course — it grows through feedback! That’s why Feedback Friday is one of our favourite parts of the week.

Every comment, suggestion, and thank-you note helps us shape even better experiences for our learners and partners. We’re passionate about constant improvement, and your insights are what make that possible.

This week, we’re thrilled to share some kind words from Jenkinsons Caterers. 💙

💓 Every Second Counts!

As emergency responders, we can tell you one thing straight: when someone’s heart stops, every second counts. It’s not dramatic TV stuff – it’s real life. And the truth is, you don’t need to wear a uniform like ours to save a life. You just need the confidence to act.

That’s what Restart a Heart Day is all about. It’s a global push to get more people trained in CPR and confident with defibrillators. Because here’s the reality: most cardiac arrests happen in the community, not in hospitals. That means friends, family, or even strangers nearby are the first line of defence. It’s all about turning bystanders into lifesavers.

Imagine this: you’re out shopping, at the gym, or on the school run – and someone collapses. If you’ve had even a little CPR training, you could keep their heart pumping until we arrive. That few minutes of action can literally mean the difference between life and death.

💡DID YOU KNOW... Every minute without CPR & defib reduces the chance of surviving a cardiac arrest by 10%

Let's turn anxiey into action!

❤️ So let’s make Restart a Heart Day 2025 count. Because the best responder is often the person standing right next to you when it happens. Restart a Heart Day is more than a date on the calendar: it’s a rallying cry to empower ordinary people with life-saving skills.

Please share this post on your social media and help us to raise awareness — someone you know might never have thought about CPR or AED before.

Princess Kate has pointed out that ongoing digital distractions might make us physically there but mentally elsewhere, diminishing our focus and bonds with people nearby.

This is especially crucial in the workplace during first aid scenarios, where complete concentration, swift choices, and effective communication are essential. By reducing distractions and being entirely present during training and emergencies, employees can respond more efficiently, guaranteeing their own safety and that of others.

Let’s Do Business Expo 25 – Highlights from Uttoxeter Racecourse!

We were delighted to attend the Let’s Do Business Expo 25 last week at Uttoxeter Racecourse. The event provided an excellent opportunity to connect with a wide range of local businesses, engage with familiar faces, and establish new relationships within the business community.

One of the highlights of the day was our CPR Challenge, which attracted great interest and participation throughout the day. We are pleased to announce our winners:

🥇 1st Place: Gareth Westwood
🥈 2nd Place: Allison Walters

Congratulations to both participants for their outstanding performance, and thank you to everyone who took part, or stopped by our stand.

Events like this remind us how valuable it is to connect with local businesses and share important life-saving skills in a fun, engaging way. We’re already looking forward to next year’s expo!
