If you've been in for a massage in the past few weeks, we have probably chosen to use Frankincense in your blend.

Amazing for the skin, but also for the respiratory system - Frankincense is the perfect choice for this time of year to clear any blocked sinuses. We've had some great results this week!

Both these essential oils are tree resins that originate in North East Africa.

In the Bible, they are said to have been gifted to Jesus by 3 wise men. (Finding 3 wise men in one place is shocking enough 😜)

The three gifts had a spiritual meaning: gold as a symbol of kingship on earth, frankincense (anΒ incense) as a symbol of spirit, and myrrh (an embalming oil) as a symbol of death.

I love that these oils were valued as much as gold! It goes to show their value in ancient customs.

Frankincense is still one of the most expensive essential oils to buy today.
It's a super beneficial ingredient in skincare, as well as a meditative aid. It is said to connect us to spirit and is used in a variety of religious ceremonies across different faiths all over the world .

Myrhh is an excellent addition to skincare for sensitive eczema prone skin. Included as a room mist or in a diffuser, it is said to banish negative energies and cleanse a space.

This week, as we look towards the longest night, the intention I take into the treatment room for every one of us is deep rest.

Soft light.

Warmth.

A pause.

A cocoon.

Deep rest in deep winter.

A haven from the busy-ness of the outside world.

Finding comfort & reassurance in the dark.

Take a breath & embrace it ✨️

is the order of the day in our house πŸ’€

I've spoken this week about wintering, honouring the season as the reset it was always meant to be.

Believe it or not has it's roots in this belief.

The folklore around yule, Christmas and midwinter reinforces ideas of community, rest, ritual, merriment, recalibration & reflection.

There's as many Christmas related monsters and stories as there are Samhain ones. We are at the deepest, darkest point of the year.

Some of these tales would have been utilised as cautionary tales of going out in the dark and the cold. Being "good" and following social norms. This ensured safety in the community.

Our ancestors also used this time to honour a slower pace and celebrate those who came before us πŸ•―

At Yule, just like Samhain, the veil is thin. The nights are at their longest and we are reminded of the cycles of death and rebirth. We are at a celestial turning point in the year.

These ideas are explored in the book The Dead of Winter as featured above.

Highly recommend if, like me, spooky season never really ended πŸ‘»πŸŽ„

As always, the message is, rest, reflect, recalibrate.

Breathe.

"Whats the goal for today?"

My clients will recognise this question, not as a question of productivity and to-dos.

But as a question of how would you like to FEEL today? (Really think about it)

Last week a client told me her goal was to "winter".

I loved this response.

It honours the seasonality of our bodies and our connection to the earth itself.

A connection which all too often gets lost this time of year, as we spend less time outside, more time indoors, and getting lost in busy-ness.

As many of you know, I always try to honour and ritualise each season.

This week has been about slowing the pace and using oils synonymous with winter & yule - the freshness of tree oils or the warmth of a spiced orange potion.

Whichever suits your mood on the day.

So please, remember to honour the season of winter - not resist it.

Welcome the rest.

Make time for self care.

Do one thing for yourself today. Ritualise it.

Even if it's just one mindful breath.

Alternative, sustainable & thoughtful gifts?🎁

Say no more.....

No clutter, no mess, no wrapping.

Just the gift of some time to herself to start the new year right.

It's

Green Monday is about sustainability and at Christmas that message is all the more important.

It doesn't mean we need to swap out all of our decorations for overpriced Scandi style paper decor. The most sustainable items are the ones we already own. Just put them to good use!

Upcycle, reimagine, update with natural found items like Holly, foliage or pine cones.

If you're fancying a more natural take on your Christmas decor this year, our range of handmade spruce wreaths will be restocked for the Stone Christmas Market on Sunday.

We are taking orders if anyone fancies something a bit different this year πŸŒ™

And when Christmas is over, you can return the base to us and we can reuse them for seasonal wreaths throughout the year πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Or why not hang on to it, and try your hand at making your own! 🀩

Check out my stories to see how we aim to be a sustainable small business all year round ♻️
