Pilates is less about how a movement looks and more about how it feels.
In a private session we can tune in to the right muscles switching on, whether through big dynamic work or small focused movements. This is how we build strength from the deep supporting muscles as well as the larger power muscles.

This is why my clients get hooked on Pilates. They begin to feel muscles they may not have noticed before. They feel more in control of their body and their workout and they do not have to second guess whether they are getting stronger, because they can literally feel it happening with every repetition.

As with everything worthwhile, it can take a little while to feel, but once you do, you just know that Pilates will stay with you for life. ๐Ÿ’œ

Return to school and routine after the summer holidays is a great time to re-set the habits that make us feel like our favourite selves.

As the season is slowly changing, letโ€™s focus on all the ways we can make ourselves feel good inside and out.

Pilates is obviously top of the list, but here are a few other things I do to maintain my energy during autumn and winter.

What would your list look like? ๐Ÿ’œ

1. Pilates, both in the studio and on the Mat at home.
2. Brisk walks whenever I can.
3. Make tasty soups to keep in the freezer for easy meals with loads of veggies.
4. Wearing my favourite jumpers.
5. Regular body brushing with a natural brush. Makes the skin feel fresh and boosts circulation.
6. Light a candle and cosying up with a cup of tea in the evening.
7. Extra focus on good skin care.
8. Sensible bed times. If the house feels chilly, I heat up a lavender wheatbag.
9. Lake swimming. Embracing the cold is a buzz.
10. Maybe a bit more Pilates?โ€ฆ.

I was asked recently if Pilates really counts as resistance training and if it can make you strong in midlife.
This is such a great question. ๐ŸŽฏ

The answer is most definitely yes!
The springs on the equipment challenge your muscles in a way that builds deep strength from the inside out.
