When a grandparent is living with Dementia, it can be a confusing and an emotional experience for children. But with gentle guidance and support, children can still share meaningful moments with the people they love 💚

Here are a few simple ways to help them stay connected:
* Enjoy shared activities like looking through photos or reading together 📚

* Speak honestly using age appropriate language

* Remind them it’s the condition that’s changing things, not the love or the person behind it 💛

* Treasure the little moments – a smile, a song, a hug

Talking openly not only helps children understand, but also nurtures empathy that lasts a lifetime.

This week for our meet the team Monday segment, is our lovely Care Pro Georgia 💚

Georgia has been working for Home Instead for 3 years, the thing she loves about her job the most is making a difference to all her clients lives. Not only supporting them but spending time with them 🫶🏻

The thing that inspired Georgia to become a carer was that from a young age she enjoyed helping people, making them smile and caring gives her these opportunities everyday.

In her free time Georgia enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews, going to the gym and cooking 🥘

One thing Georgia wishes people understood better about the caregiving profession in this industry is, as a care professional you can sometimes feel a large amount of pressure. We may be the only person our clients see on a day to day basis so we have to make sure we go above and beyond. Not only supporting with things like personal care but also listening to them and showing interest in the things they like to do.

The best piece of advice a client has given Georgia is about marriage. His words were “always work at it, yesterday’s disagreements shouldn’t be brought into today,” Georgia had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife and they had a happy marriage which lasted 60+ years 🥹

Barbara joined us just a few months ago, and in her daughter’s words, she already 'has a better social life than she does!'

Barbara has been out and about in her new wheelchair, visiting Highfields Garden Centre and Sainsbury’s, enjoying lunch at Tesco in Quedgeley, and catching up with her daughter at Leaf & Ground 💚

Next up for our meet the team segment is our Relations Coordinator Kelly 😊

Kelly started working for Home Instead as a care professional and has worked her way up through to a senior, team leader, to her current role as relations coordinator all in just over two years!

Kelly’s mum was a carer when she was growing up and saw the enjoyment that she got out of her career which inspired Kelly to pursue a job in care. The most enjoyable part of Kelly’s job is supporting the clients to remain living at home independently.

In her free time, Kelly likes to go and watch Swindon town with her little girl which she follows around the country! ⚽️ As well as this, she enjoys doing diamond painting to relax at the end of the day.

One thing she wishes people understood about the caregiving profession is that it is not just sitting with a client having a cup of tea and a chat, it is supporting them with everything from personal care to cleaning, to ensuring they can be kept in their own home for as long as possible.

The best piece of advice Kelly has been given by a client is to keep going even when times can get tough, you are making a change to someone somewhere 💜

Today sees the launch of our social campaign to introduce our team here at Home Instead Stroud! I will be posting a ‘Meet the team Monday’ every week with carers that wish to participate 💚

First up is our leading lady, our registered manager Leanne 🫶🏻

Leanne has worked for Home Instead since February 2021, where she started as a care professional, progressed to a recruiter/ scheduler and then became regional manager 👏🏼

Leanne’s mum was a registered manager for different care homes throughout Leanne’s childhood which pushed Leanne to take the same direction. The most enjoyable thing about the job to Leanne is making the clients feel happy and supported 🫶🏻

In her free time, Leanne loves to spend time with her two cheeky boys with their grandparents doing crafts 🎨

One thing she wishes people understood about the care profession is that we are truly making a difference to people’s lives and ensuring we follow the clients wishes. Our job ensures that people are safe and happy in their own homes.

The best piece of advice a client has given Leanne is to always smile and to not take the world so seriously 💚

We have been made aware of this fantastic thing that WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre have done following the passing of one of our clients by naming a swan after her.
It has been a pleasure to deliver Bettie’s wishes to remain living at home.
All our carers enjoyed visiting Bettie, hearing her stories and taking her out to her beloved slimbridge.

She's been a popular figure at WWT Slimbridge since 1999 ❤️
86-year-old volunteer Bettie Sloane - who brought "endless enthusiasm" and "so much joy" to the site - has died.

A Bewick's swan has been named after her. You can spot Bettie by her unique bill pattern, pictured below.
