I've finally done it!

I've been working quietly over the last few months to build a website for my yoga business.

It's been tricky as my budget was very small, I hate being online for longer than 10mins and my brain struggled to comprehend some of the technical jargon, so I'm doubly proud of my efforts 💪 (It took 8,000 deep breaths, 9 million meditations and 47,000 procrastination yoga classes to complete 🤣)

(Would you believe I was once a Web & Data Assistant? Personally introduced a new workflow system to an independent publishing house? I am now far more comfortable in a shoulder stand than at a desk, but I will always remember and be grateful for my previous book life.)

I wanted a site that was quick to load and one that gives insight into my yoga classes and what to expect. Hopefully that's what I've created within the realms of my digital capabilities!

The website has my yoga classes and class locations, booking links and newsletter links. Please tell me if you spot any typos 🙈, and feel free to share if you think someone might be interested in some yoga and headspace.

The link is in my bio for juanitazoeyoga.co.uk

Thanks 🪷

An absolute beauty of a morning, and blue sky above Leonard Stanley Village Hall for class this morning.

If your New Year's resolution to start / try / go back to yoga didn't stick or come to fruition, now's the time to try again. As winter ebbs away and spring dances at the edges, everything seems far more possible 🙌

It's a very soggy day, and a real bummer after yesterday's spring-like feel, but a huge bonus of being self-employed is that I can react to the weather and switch my to-do list about. So today is research and planning 🧘🏼‍♀️🤓

I thought I would explain where I sit with the more 'advanced' poses in yoga, like shoulder stand, crow pose, wheel pose, etc. While I love the physical and mental challenge of these poses and agree it's great to have a sense of progress or a goal, I find most of my students would consider these to be impossible/scary. Therefore, we layer our poses and find other versions to ensure classes remain as accessible as possible.

Sometimes we work for a term on a particular pose like this and there may be a chance/desire to try it when we've explored lots of preparatory poses to build the necessary strength or flexibility, but there is never any pressure to attempt them or stay in them for a long time.

I prefer my classes to be achievable, enjoyable and built for the strength needed for every day life.

An endometriosis update, if you want one ...

I fully appreciate some won't and that's fine - scroll on by.

I want to be clear on here because it's really important people know about this disease. Had I known in the 10 years it took for a diagnosis, I might not be facing what I am today.

I saw an endo specialist at Bath RUH yesterday and we've decided to move forward with urgent surgery. This will be a hysterectomy (keeping my ovaries), removal of extensive endo adhesions and fibrotic tissue in my pelvis, bladder and bowel. A portion of my bowel may need to be removed if the endometriosis is deeply embedded. More imaging needs to be done as there is a chance it is in my ureter (the tube carrying fluid from the kidney to the bladder). If all goes well, it'll be keyhole surgery. Current estimate is that it'll be somewhere between Jul-Jan.

This all seems pretty scary, but not nearly as scary as not being treated, or being treated by a surgeon without the relevant training which happens more times than anyone wants to believe.

In the meantime, I'm keeping my focus on staying fit and healthy. Walking more, doing yoga, eating well, sleeping enough and reading a lot. And looking to a future where I will have more energy, less pain and better health 🙏

Please don't put up with period pain. If you're ignored/gaslit/dismissed, ask to see someone else. When the fight to be heard gets too tiring, reach out to a loved one or friend or both to steady you and help you fight. ❤️

Even in slightly ropey weather, we had a great time.
