"Carrera is synonymous with pioneering design and outstanding quality.

A statement brand for people who live by their own rules, continuously defying themselves and proudly approaching life standing out from the
crowd."

That's how the brand would describe and whilst we dont disagree with that...it's not how most people would let us know what they're looking for in a frame πŸ₯ΈπŸ€“

Indestructible tends to be number one on the wish list followed by light weight, flexible, chunky, sturdy, solid hinges, make sure my wife/partner/dog/neighbour down the road likes it....πŸ€”

Whilst one frame cannot cover all bases, the Carrera range features a variety of styles, finishes and materials such as titanium, carbon fibre, stainless steel, aluminium and acetate. They may not be indestructible but theyre pretty close!

Come in and have a look πŸ‘€ and try on for yourself and remember theres 25% off until the end of August!

● What is myopia?

Myopia is another name for being short-sighted or near-sighted. This means that someone is able to see things that are close up, but the distance is blurred.

Myopia occurs when the eye is longer than the average measurement of 22.22 mm from front to back. In order to have sharp, focused vision light must fall on the retina at the back of the eye. With myopia, the light focuses in front of the retina so the distance vision becomes blurry.

● What causes myopia?

β—‡You're are more likely to become myopic if your parents are also myopic. Myopia usually starts in childhood (between 6 and 13 years) and continues to get worse until the eye has stopped growing.
β—‡If you are of East Asian ethnicity, there is a higher predisposition to myopia
β—‡Limited time spent outdoors

● Can myopia be prevented?

Research has shown that spending time outdoors can help prevent or delay the development of myopia in children, particularly those who are known to be in an at risk group.

There are various myopia management treatments that have become available in recent years that have been shown to slow the development but not prevent it completely. These options include specially designed spectacle lenses or contact lenses.

It's myopia awareness week! πŸ‘€

Myopia, also known as being near or short sighted, is on the rise globally, particularly in children.

Follow us this week as we discuss the benefits of regular eye examinations, screen smart habits, playtime outdoors, and early intervention.

Another feature of this week is pledging to reduce your own daily screen time. Why not include the kids and start new habits together? πŸ€“

Diabetic Eye Screening will be held at hospitals across the Western Isles

Diabetic Eye Screening (DES) appointments in the Western Isles will now be held at your local hospital.

As of April 18, you will be able to access diabetic eye screening at the same location as some of the other services you may use. The new arrangements also mean that you will be able to arrange hospital transport for your appointment if required.

While NHS Western Isles transitions to this new arrangement, there may be a slight delay in you being invited for your next appointment. We thank you for your patience while the new locations complete their preparations to welcome you.

In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding your DES appointment, please contact the Diabetes Centre on 01851 708331 or wi.drs@nhs.scot.
