Around 11 million people in the UK are deaf or have hearing loss, which can make everyday communication more challenging.

Managing hearing loss may involve hearing therapy, lipreading, or learning sign language. It can also lead to social withdrawal, emotional strain, or loneliness.

Deaf Awareness Week was established by the UK Council on Deafness to raise awareness of the challenges faced by the deaf community and encourage greater understanding and support.

Deafness brings unique experiences, including barriers to inclusion and impacts on mental wellbeing.
