Following on from yesterday’s post. In Little Bees Big feelings for £20 per session you are getting two qualified and experienced metal health professionals. This is significantly cheaper than other private therapy.

At Bee well we aim to make metal health support accessible and widely available to all.

Our new group Little Bees Big Feelings works out at £20 per sessions. What else can you buy for £20?

• Family of four swimming.
• McDonald’s, 1 adult meal and 2 children's meals.
• Odeon Cinema, 1 adult and 1 child.
• 60 minutes at a trampoline park for 2 children.
• 30 minutes musical instrument tuition for 1 child.
• 5 after school club sessions provided by school and not by an outside provider.

We are trying to keep costs as low as possible because of the current economic climate. We were shocked to discover that £20 does not cover much these days!

We are excited to introduce Little Bees Big Feelings.

Little Bees Big Feelings is inspired by our school-based programme My Feelings and Me. While both share the same core messages, the content has been intentionally adapted to create a clear distinction between the two. This approach ensures that schools continue to benefit from a bespoke, tailored group intervention.

Little Bees Big Feelings takes place over 5 sessions. Children will have the opportunity to learn about their feelings and be taught vital life skills.

The group is deliberately kept small to enable participants to feel comfortable and supported.

The first session is open for one parent/carer to accompany their child. The remaining sessions will be child only.

All sessions will take place at Mary Stevens Centre, Stourbridge.

To book please use online form.

Why do we think it’s important that everyone should be educated about their feelings? In doing this it will help people to understand what causes their feelings and how to acknowledge them.

We would love to see future generations be able to say for example, I feel angry because of….. and I need …

It would be amazing if Dudley Borough could be at the forefront of this movement.

We now live in a society that is thankfully recognising mental health more. However, with this comes the desire to over label people. Let’s be honest we have all used google doctor.

It is important to allow children to just bee. Allow them to feel and express their emotions freely but teach them skills to manage them.

This means all feelings are valid. Anger, sadness, disappointment, fear, worry etc are all ok to feel, but if we teach children how to recognise and express them in a safe manner, we can support them in understanding these feelings. We can all feel these feelings without the need for a diagnostic label. Just because we have a cough doesn’t mean we then label ourselves as asthmatic.

Try to stay in the moment and focus on what the behaviour is trying to communicate. It’s ok to not have all the answers, but what is important is that you notice them. Remember google only shows a summary of symptoms.

A little reminder that when we, adults and children are experiencing heightened emotions, we are incapable of actively listening.

During heightened states of emotion, we may say things that we don’t really mean, we are unable to listen, so therefore, cannot see how upset others may be by our actions.

A simple tip to support with this, is to allow space and time for the emotion to cool down. Be mindful that you may feel drained after this encounter, so an offer of a snack or drink to replenish would be useful. After some time has passed and if appropriate, you can talk about what happened.

Anybody else feeling a bit overwhelmed this week? If you’ve been struggling getting back into usual routines, bombarded with school events or exhausted with work demands this is ok. Show yourself some grace and lower expectations of what needs to be done as you ease yourself back in.

Following on from yesterday’s post your school may also have access to NHS services including, the School Nurse team and Reflexions.

School Nurses provide support including, heath assessments, health promotion and wellbeing support using the I Thrive model.

This is a reactive service in response to children who are struggling with their physical health and/or wellbeing.

Reflexions are also a reactive intervention for children who are struggling with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. Reflexions provide Cogntive Behavioural Therapy interventions.

At Bee Well we offer proactive interventions that are suitable for all children and young people. We hope by sharing this information it helps to show the differences between us and that there is a need for all of these services for children and young people.

Here at Bee Well we pride ourselves on being a proactive service. This means our current My Feelings and Me programme is open to all children. Thus children do not need to be showing signs of a mental health need. It focuses on much needed mental health education and life skills, that should be available to all.

Your school may have an Elsa (Emotional literacy support assistant.) This is a reactive targeted intervention, for children showing signs of a mental health need.

By sharing this information, we hope to show the differences in support, while highlighting the need for all.
