Dr. John E. Upledger, a 1962 Kirksville graduate, made a name for himself as the developer of Craniosacral therapy in the 1970s. In 1985 he founded The Upledger Institute (now The Upledger Institute International) dedicated to this new form of treatment. Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a form of cranial osteopathy. CST is focused on using a soft touch to manipulate the membranes and fluids of the central nervous system with a focus on releasing tension found in the connective tissue found throughout the body. Here is an image from Upledger Research Photographs in 1976. There are nine black and white photographs attached to black cardboard backing, images of circular cells in response to pressure or energy exchange between the physician's touch and the patient, information for each photograph is written either above or below in white, "Temp 22-37c Norm S." label on backing board, part of research conducted by John Upledger regarding the bioelectric changes and strain measurements during transcutaneous acupuncture and osteopathic manipulation [2022.18.449].

Children put themselves through the paces on a minute by minute basis, the odd tumble won’t cause much trouble – in fact it’s required to develop a strong frame. But cumulatively these little insults (especially to the pelvis and the head) can become stored in their little bodies. They benefit hugely from the gentle release that treatment can bring: I never work against the body, only to coax and ease the body into freedom.

The relationship between child and practitioner is a privileged one, based on trust and candour. Rosie really believes that children are the most interesting people on the planet!

With 25 years of experience in the treatment of children, including time spent at the Osteopathic Centre for Children, London, and multiple post-graduate courses in cranio-sacral, paediatric and obstetric osteopathy, Rosie is also a qualified music teacher - with many skills to engage children in their own treatment.

Rosie is available in Oldswinford, Stourbridge regularly, and in Leamington, at Naturally Baby (on Mondays only).

Please email rosie@physical-wellbeing.co.uk to arrange a time to initially discuss your concern and make an appointment. Appointment charge is £45 for children on a continuing basis, £60 for a first appointment of up to one hour.

26 years ago today I was staring at a huge pile of wine bottles, signs of the fabulous graduation we enjoyed the day before, nursing a bit of a sore head. Nervously, I was contemplating my first day's work in professional practice, beginning the next day.

So tired at the end of 4 solid years of studying Osteopathy for 30 to 40 hours a week, including 2 years in clinic. Too much fun with the French contingent meant a 2:2 for me, but boy what a time we had. I was so amazed at the First I received for my undergraduate research project on the health of musicians. No self doubt that experience wouldn't cure, but I spent years and years of trying to fight my way into the mainstream, ego leading the way.

The ONLY thing I can credit lockdown with, despite almost complete devastation of my financial and emotional recovery from earlier blows, is the clarity it brought to me. No-one can judge, justify or experience my practice better than my patient and me. So I said cheerio to any other exterior body, alluding to support or give credibility to my practice, but who in fact feed the collective ego, that may well be the vanishing of our Art.

What's in a single word, a title? Not much. You can keep it.
