This Cervical Screening Awareness Week (19-25 June), people in the Black Country are being urged to make sure their cervical screenings are up to date. We are holding extra clinics in June for those wanting to book. Please contact the Practice to arrange your smear test.

Cervical cancer is a preventable disease that claims the lives of women worldwide. Every two minutes, a woman succumbs to this disease, and even in the United Kingdom, two women lose their lives to this entirely preventable condition daily. Despite the alarming statistics, one in every three women fails to take up their invitation to attend a cervical screening appointment. However, early detection of abnormal cell changes through screening can effectively prevent up to 75% of cases.

Cervical Screening Awareness Week serves as a crucial platform to raise awareness about the significance of regular cervical screening as part of the global effort to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030, a target set by the World Health Organisation (WHO). NHS England has announced that from July 1, 2025, all women aged 25 to 64 will be invited to undergo cervical screening every five years. However, women at higher risk of cervical cancer due to high-risk Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) or cell changes will receive more frequent screenings.
