Balance your Body

Tradicional Chinese Medicine treatments are focused on the individual, not the illness, and all symptoms are seen in relation to each other.

Jessica Jacobs qualified with a master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine after completing a four year program at the prestigious AOMA: Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in Austin, Texas, USA.

She has been in practice since 2011 and has used acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to successfully treat a variety of conditions including: pain, digestive disorders, insomnia, anxiety/depression, women’s health issues, and infertility. She is a proud member of the British Acupuncture Council.

Have you heard about the therapeutic relationship…. Myself and my fellow clinicians at we go a step further and we speak in terms of a Therapeutic Alliance.

We encourage a partnership making our therapies meaningful with effective measurable outcomes and it is based on:

• Trust: A bond of trust, caring, and respect is essential.
• Shared goals: The therapist and client agree on the goals of therapy.
• Collaboration: The therapist and client work together on the tasks of the treatment.
• Empathetic listening: The therapist listens to the client with empathy and gives them their full attention.

All between the boundaries of our therapeutic rooms. Let’s continue the journey for a healthier, active, well balanced life style.

OUCHHH! Pain matters…

The number one reason most of you book for massage is for pain relief.

This spring I am actively joining the Pain Revolution Movement and will share with you some experiences and lessons learned at the practice to change narratives such as “no pain- no gain” or “pain = injury”. Instead I am promoting “pain is our teacher”.

To get you started, here is a fabulous poster about sustainable management of chronic pain. Being active and pro-active about dealing with pain will help you to learn strategies to take control.

Whilst massage is part of the strategies to help reducing pain such as soothing because is doing something for/to us, it is only but temporary. What is really important is that you come out from our practice with tools that will enable you to move forward.

In the practice we follow two mantras “motion is lotion” and “exercise is everything”, no session will finish without recommendations or rehabilitation plans amongst other suggestions.

Manual therapies have an important role to play in recovery in the management of injury and pain; otherwise we will cease to exist. BUT, here a session conduces change, inspiration, and positive thinking. Never a dull treatment.

Don’t forget to book your appointment in advance and to experience treatments with our new associate practitioner Mrs.Leah Parkes …. And Keep Tuned !

SPRING UPDATE

This month welcomes the very talented Mrs. Leah Parkes who has joined the practice in her capacity as a Sports Massage Therapist.

Leah is a keen runner, her interest in athletics meant she took the path of becoming a physiotherapist and currently is in her last year at Wolverhampton University.

Leah gained a certificate in Sports Massage and has been shadowing work in the practice to encompass what she has learned in her modules in MSK, Sports and functional anatomy at university.

I eagerly have been watching her development and cannot be more thrilled that she is joining us but also to learn from her as she is definitely not short of knowledge.

Here, here! To a successful career in Sports and MSK physical therapies, at the practice we feel very honoured to have Leah not only as a colleague but as an associate practitioner.

Next practice days available on 7th and 14 March.

What goes on in the mind of the therapist when doing a shoulder assessment?
Asking the right questions enables to distinguish if is it of muscular, spinal/neural or joint related origin; sometimes it is a combination.
Clarifying what is referral symptom or causing issue is important and I use many methods and functional tests.
It results in providing the patient with a progressive treatment approach that includes a rehabilitation plan.
Massage and complementary therapies can do only so much, but a regular routine of strengthening and conditioning is always the way forward.
Worried about that persisting ni**le? Don’t let it progress to the point you cannot perform a loved activity.

Guidance for this winter on the new variant of Corona: PIROLA

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, you should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days after the day the test was taken.

If you’re under 18, you should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days after the day you took your test.

It’s important to avoid meeting people who are more likely to get seriously ill from viruses -such as the elderly or people with a weakened immune system - for 10 days after the day you took your test.

If you are presenting symptoms call for an assessment and if in doubt LFT are available. It is all about prevention and limiting dissemination.
