As we head into a new week, I don’t know who needs to hear this but…
Modesty can suck an egg. 🥚
We’re told modesty is a virtue. That it’s noble to keep ourselves small, quiet, contained.
But here’s the truth:
For 30 years, I’ve worked with people who want to step into their fullest confidence. And without fail, the very first barrier is this toxic belief that being powerful, radiant, and proud of who you are and what you've accomplished is somehow “immodest.”
Modesty isn’t natural.
Babies are born demanding attention, delighting in themselves, owning their significance.
Modesty is taught.
It’s drilled into us as a form of control so others feel more comfortable, so power stays where it is, so we don’t take up too much space.
But modesty is in direct conflict with one of our most basic human needs: significance.
And when we deny that need, we breed self-rejection, unworthiness, depression, and a lifetime of playing small.
Here’s the truth: celebrating yourself has nothing to do with bragging or comparison.
It’s about living out loud in your worth.
True confidence doesn’t shrink.
It radiates.
It shines.
So stop dimming and start blazing.
Your brilliance is the permission slip others need to shine, too.
