We’ve all felt it ~ the constant pinging, scrolling, and the pressure to stay connected 24/7. While our phones keep us in touch with the world, they can also take a massive toll on our mental well-being.

The impact of excessive phone use on mental health:

* Increased anxiety & stress - the endless stream of notifications, news, and messages can elevate anxiety levels, leaving us feeling overwhelmed.

* Social comparison - social media gives us a curated, highlight-reel view of other people’s lives, which can leave us feeling inadequate or like we’re falling behind.

* Sleep disruption - staring at our phones late into the night affects sleep quality, and poor rest leads to mood swings and decreased productivity.

* Mental fatigue - constant multitasking and the barrage of information can make it hard to focus or stay present, leading to burnout.

* Isolation - ironically, the more we’re glued to our screens, the more disconnected we can feel from real-life relationships.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the impact of phone usage on your mental health, counselling can be a valuable tool in reclaiming your peace of mind.

If it’s time for you to reset, reconnect, and reclaim balance, keeping your mental health intact, please contact me for support.

Mental Health Awareness Week 12th ~18th May 2025:

This year’s theme is Community ~ a powerful reminder of how essential connection and belonging are to our mental well-being.

Through the Human Givens approach to counselling, we recognise that one of our innate emotional needs is a sense of community ~ the feeling that we’re part of something bigger, that we belong. When this need is unmet, it can deeply affect our mental health.

Let’s take this week to reach out, reconnect, and support one another. Whether it’s a kind word, a shared story, or simply being there ….. community heals.

National Walking Month takes place throughout May. Walking can be a powerful tool for managing stress, anxiety, and depression due to a combination of physiological, psychological, and environmental effects:

1. Releases Feel-Good Brain Chemicals: Endorphins and serotonin increase during physical activity, improving mood and reducing stress. Regular walking helps regulate cortisol, the stress hormone.

2. Improves Sleep: Better sleep is linked to reduced anxiety and depression, and walking ~ especially outdoors ~ can help regulate circadian rhythms.

3. Breaks Negative Thought Patterns: Gentle rhythmic movement can disrupt cycles of rumination and overthinking common in depression and anxiety.

4. Boosts Self-Esteem and Motivation: Accomplishing even a short walk can give a sense of achievement and control, which are often diminished in depression.

5. Mindfulness and Grounding
Walking, especially when done mindfully (e.g. focusing on surroundings or bodily sensations), promotes presence and reduces worry.

6. Social Connection: Walking with others or simply being around people in public spaces can reduce feelings of isolation.

7. Nature Amplifies the effects walking in green spaces (parks, forests) has additional calming effects due to nature's ability to lower heart rate and stress levels.

This month, let's shine a light on mental health and the important role that counselling can play in supporting our well-being.

Counselling provides a safe, non-judgmental space where you can express your thoughts, feelings, and challenges. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, or simply navigating life’s ups and downs, talking to a professional can help you gain clarity, learn coping strategies, and build resilience.

Here’s how counselling can support you:

* Emotional support: A counsellor listens and helps you process your emotions, so you don’t have to go through it alone.

* Coping skills: Learn practical tools to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.

* Perspective shift: Counselling helps you explore new perspectives and ways of thinking, empowering you to make healthier decisions.

* Healing: It’s a space for healing, where you can address past trauma or unresolved issues at your own pace.

Remember, seeking support is a sign of strength. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and counselling can make a real difference in your journey to well-being.

If you’re ready for support, please contact me.

Exams can be tough ~ but your child doesn’t have to face it alone.

Exams can bring stress, tears, and tummy aches ~ not just for children, but for the whole family. As adults, we often focus on results, but for young minds, the pressure can feel overwhelming.

Here’s how counselling can help during exam time:

* Teaches healthy ways to cope with stress and anxiety.

* Builds confidence and self-belief.

* Creates a safe space to talk about fears and worries.

* Offers tools like breathing techniques, time management, and positive self-talk.

Every child deserves to feel heard, supported, and safe ~ especially now.

If your child is feeling the pressure, we’re here to help them through it with care and compassion. Please feel free to contact me for further information.

Let’s focus on wellbeing, not just results ~ mental health matters.

No one is 100% all the time ~ and that’s okay. Healing, growth, and even just getting through the day can look different from moment to moment. Some days we show up strong, other days we just show up ~ and both are valid. Be gentle with yourself. You’re allowed to be human.

If you're finding things a little heavy right now, you don't have to carry it alone. Please contact me ~ counselling support is here when you're ready.

Happiness isn’t just a destination, it’s a journey. Whether you're taking small steps or leaps, seeking support along the way can make all the difference. As a counsellor, I believe in the power of healing, self-discovery, and learning to embrace life’s ups and downs.

Today is a reminder that it's okay not to have everything figured out. Happiness isn’t about perfection; it’s about learning to navigate through challenges, understanding your emotions, and finding moments of peace and gratitude, even in the midst of struggle.

Take a moment today to check in with yourself. What brings you peace? What are you holding onto that no longer serves you? And what small actions can you take to nurture your mental and emotional health today?

Remember, it's okay to ask for help. It’s okay to lean on others. You deserve to feel supported, heard, and fulfilled. No matter where you are on your journey, happiness is possible with patience, kindness, and self-compassion.

Menopause is a natural part of life, but it can bring emotional and mental challenges that many aren’t prepared for. Hormonal shifts can lead to mood swings, anxiety, depression, and a sense of loss.

Counselling can help in many ways:

Emotional Support:
Understanding and processing the emotions that come with this transition.

Stress Management:
Learning coping strategies to handle anxiety, sleep disturbances, or changes in energy levels.

Relationship Guidance:
Navigating how menopause may affect your relationships with loved ones.

Self-Discovery & Empowerment: Embracing this new phase with confidence and personal growth.

You don’t have to go through this alone. Therapy can provide the tools you need to manage emotional and mental well-being during menopause.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to contact me. You deserve support and care during this time of change.

National Reflection Day: A time to pause and reflect ….

As we observe National Reflection Day, it’s important to take a moment to pause and think about how far we’ve come since the pandemic. Over the past few years, many of us have faced challenges that tested our mental and emotional resilience. It's been a time of uncertainty, fear, and change, but it’s also been a time of growth, learning, and healing.

For many, counselling and support have been essential tools in navigating these turbulent times. Whether it was seeking therapy for the first time, joining support groups, or simply reaching out to a friend or loved one, we’ve learned the value of connection and self-care.

As we reflect today, let’s remember that seeking help is a sign of strength. It’s okay to not be okay, and taking steps toward healing is something to be proud of. If you haven’t yet, consider reaching out to a counsellor, therapist, or support network to continue your journey of self-reflection and growth.

Together, we move forward. 💚
