Louise Mallender Osteopathy

Louise Mallender Osteopathy Providing comprehensive, safe and effective osteopathic treatment, and lifestyle medicine coaching

Determined to enter into a more holistic, medical based career, I trained at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine and qualified in 2005. Having gained several years of valuable experience in a combination of Osteopathic, complementary health clinics and GP practices, I began my own practice in the rural Suffolk town of Needham Market in 2011. Although the manual 'hands on' treatment forms a large part of my work as an Osteopath, one of the other roles that I feel is of equal importance is to educate my patients on how to look after their bodies; this may include exercise or postural advice, things to change at home or in the workplace, advising on footwear, mattresses or seating or simply getting my patients to drink more water! I believe in encouraging and supporting my patients with many aspects of their health and lifestyle, as a multifactoral approach works best. My aims are to get people more comfortable, mobile, back to doing what they need or want to do, and to equip them with self help tools to manage or prevent the issues they came to me with. For anyone not requiring my 'hands on' osteopathic services, but wishing to improve their health and well being, I can offer lifestyle medicine coaching, which can be done in person or remotely.

Absolutely agree big time!!

80-90% of what a doctor sees in any given day is related to our collective modern lifestyles. Many people (doctors included) simply do not understand this. Most of the complaints that afflict us are simply not seen in more traditional societies and cultures.

PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS NOT ABOUT BLAME. I understand that life can feel tough for so many people. But, we have to collectively understand that when we start paying attention to
👉🏾FOOD,
👉🏾MOVEMENT,
👉🏾SLEEP
👉🏾STRESS..it is amazing how many ‘downstream symptoms’ start to get better or even vanish.

Yes, I know that many people find change hard. But, having seen thousands of patients over the past 23 years, I am pretty clear on the key ingredients necessary for long term change.

Drop a ❤️ below if you found this a helpful reminder this morning. And, let me know below what small changes you are planning to introduce into your life?

Lifestyle Change Support Group
🥗🍎🌅💡🛏🎉🆘☯️🚲🤸‍♀️🍇🙌💪🏃‍♂️🌈

Would you like to join our small face to face group which focuses on many areas of lifestyle to support you with changes to help your health and well being?

It is a relaxed space for learning handy tips, getting up to date evidence based information, sharing ideas and experiences and goal setting where appropriate. Peer support plays a huge role in this group, which is key in helping people reach their goals.

If you know you need to make changes either for your general health, because you want to future proof your later life, or you simply want to just feel better (and you're fed up with feeling rubbish), you don’t have to do it alone and support is here!

Cedars Park Community Centre
6.30-8pm, Tuesdays
£15 per session. You can attend every week or just now and again to suit you.

There will weekly updates on a private WhatsApp group announcing which topic areas we will be looking at so you will know if that session is one you need/want to attend.

To book a space, call me (Louise) on 07789935190 or 01449 678250

COACHING

For any patients (or non-patients) that don’t already know, I also offer coaching in various areas of lifestyle. One of those areas is help with weight loss.

Excess weight is a major factor in reducing our overall health and well being and so it’s a pretty important one to address.

After your first one or 2 coaching sessions, which will last an hour, it is quite likely that sessions of 30 minutes may be sufficient, once you are making good progress.
The more progress you make or better your changes are established, the longer the gap between your sessions.

The checking in side is a really powerful aspect of coaching, which helps people to stay focused on their goals/changes, as opposed to going it alone.

Charges are as follows:

60 minutes = £60
30 minutes = £40

If you have an aspect of your lifestyle that you want to improve or change, get in touch to see what you can achieve.

Part of my purpose is to help get you on the right track and moving forward, providing support and understanding your unique challenges.

WEIGHT LOSS

Weight loss is something that a lot of people want to achieve.

At our lifestyle change support group, rather than weighing and measuring you and getting you to count calories and be strict with yourself, our support includes a different approach……

With coming at a weight loss attempt from a place of self compassion and learning about the nutritional quality of food, you will be enabled to make healthier food choices that nourish and energise you.

We also look at eating behaviours/habits that are not serving you and ways to help change those to better ones.

And it’s not just food that affects weight loss!!
Poor sleep, stress, lack of physical activity can all play a part in preventing or slowing down weight loss.

We consider your well being more holistically - discussing stress, sleep and how to become more active, linking other areas of lifestyle together.

Recently within the group we have been looking at how food can affect our mood, which foods cause inflammation and which foods reduce inflammation, stress management, and SMART goals to make healthy dietary changes, chosen by you and based on what works for you!

If this sounds like the sort of approach you would like to try, or would prefer to conventional dieting, please get in touch on 07789935190 or 01449 678250.

Our group sessions are at Cedars Community Centre on Tuesday evenings, 6.30-8pm. £15 per session.

Alternatively, I offer weight loss and nutritional coaching on a one to one basis.

Thank you for reading

Lifestyle medicine is branch of evidence-based medicine in which comprehensive lifestyle changes (including nutrition, physical activity, stress management, social support and environmental exposures) are used to prevent, treat and reverse the progression of chronic diseases by addressing their underlying causes.

An easier explanation is one which my patients understand.

Rather than continuing to mop up the overflow from a bathtub, lifestyle medicine is about trying to turn the leaking tap off.

We CAN reduce our risk of Alzheimers by:-

Keeping active, getting our heart working

Getting good quality sleep

Continuing to learn new things/skills throughout later life

Staying connected with friends, family and other other social activities on a regular basis

We must stop treating Alzheimers as 'just something you get as you age' - if we look after ourselves better, we can protect ourselves better

For a fantastic source of information on numerous topics relating to health and wellbeing, I'd thoroughly recommend Dr Rangan Chatterjee's website.
His PODCASTS include guests from a range of (medical and non medical) backgrounds, that are highly knowledgeable in their field, and present sound, up to date evidence based information, along with lots of self help tips and advice that you can put into practice straight away!

Every patient is unique. I advocate for personalised medicine specific to the individual. However, I believe lifestyle and nutrition are always the bedrock upon which all chronic medical management should be founded.

Lifting weights for less than an hour a week may reduce your risk for a heart attack or stroke by 40 to 70 percent, according to a new study. Spending more than an hour in the weight room did not yield any additional benefit, the researchers found. The results show benefits of strength training are....
