Bo***cks to you, 25 year old manual track adjusters and everything you stand for!!

A short story of how quick 10minute track change turned into a 5 hour Grinding, Heating, Welding and Hammering hate fest.

Old rotten/seized adjusters gassed out and removed šŸ‘
Adjusting hole tapped out šŸ‘
New ones made up out of some M20 all-thread and some welded on nuts šŸ‘
All reassembled which much grease and enthusiasm 🫔🫔

It’s been a long and busy few weeks full of Clutches, Transmissions, Broken wiring looms, Replacement wiring looms, Fencing, Hydraulics, Mowing, Injectors, Cultivators, Buying more tractors I definitely needed, Bringing soft toys to work and The odd pint of the good stuff..

Long may it continue.. 🚜 šŸŗ šŸŒž

Catching up with some more nonsense…

1, Forza Horizon: Weapons of Grass destruction!

2, Very tidy Zaxis 130 for 1000hour service.

3,4,5, stunning Fastrac in for some electrical faults including ignition barrel and rectification of some very questionable solenoid wiring 🫣

6, Don’t know who organised this..

7,8, Whoever said working on mowers isn’t infuriating, has never worked on mowers! New gearbox for another Hayter.

9, delivering the goods 🌾

10, A picture paints a thousand words… all of these ones were explicit!!

11,12,13, More bits on Project 35X 🚜

14, A Mule on the wrong Fuel 🫣

15, ā€œIt sometimes overheats mateā€ 🤦

16, Little Hitachi stuck in High Tracking

17, Petrol Fergie having a new starter āš™ļø

18, Immaculate JS130 from last year in for 1000hour service, oil leak and engine oil cooler.

19, JD compact with various electrical faults.

Trying to keep to my word and post some mildly uninteresting content once in a while.

1,2,3, Picturesque afternoon out sorting this bent headstock. Some heat and attitude adjustment saw it right. šŸ”„

4,5, Full service on this Genie cherry picker and removal of the most prolific diesel bug I’ve ever seen. šŸ›

6, !GAME OVER!

7, Mower & hedge trimmer serviced, repaired and returned to customer.

8, Anyone who can tell me what’s wrong with this picture gets nothing at all. Hint: was the mower in previous picture and it didn’t start properly. Someone has been here before… naughty someone!

9, Au Revoir šŸ‘‹ šŸ‡«šŸ‡·

10, Tired of flat puns, look no further! šŸ›ž

11, New tracks for this wee CAT.

12,13 Sunny Friday nights fixing broken stuff.

14,15,16,17, Project 35X gets new pistons/liners, new front axle bushes, reamed out small end bushes and some serious artwork from 🄰

18,19 Little Kubota with a few hydro issues.

20, Hayter gearbox replacement. The Birmingham screwdriver was merely there for moral support šŸ”Ø

All popular influencers will tell you, it’s important to constantly be updating your social media with engaging, relevant and up to date content.

Not wait 227 days then post a load of random pictures…

But here’s 20 snaps of some of the things that have been on the go since then. Enjoy!

Looking back at pictures of balers is PTSD inducing… but it’s nice to be reminded of what a blue sky looks like 🤯

Did dad want a front end loader fitted to his 575??

Not really.. but I figured that he could do with a hand, after all these years carrying his massive legend of a son! šŸ‘€

Besides, the next person at haymaking time who whinged to me about moving a bale of hay… was going to get slapped silly!

So fitted a loader I did..

This involved a trip to Ludlow to pull one out of a hedge, probably hadn’t moved since the mid 90s, what could possibly go wrong??
The frame was then fitted and the cab stripped out to gain access to all the oily bits.

Once in there, the lonely double acting spool valve was stripped out and taken to pieces. Two extra slices were added (more brand new bits šŸ‘€) which now allowed; Up, down, crowd, tilt and aux bale grab functions. This was refitted with new pipe work (because why not) and new pipes down to the fancy bracket, which I knocked up, to hold the quick couplers for the loader.

I had a go at using the stands somebody else had fabricated, but that soon ended in tears as they were basically made out of cheese, or mechano… or both. So they’ve made permanent residence in the bin and the old thing can rest on a stack of tyres when not in use. šŸ‘Œ

Failing all of this and we never make hay this year, due to global warming or labour coming to power… at least it’s now twice as easy to go camping šŸ•ļø and has something he didn’t want or need!

Thanks for reading my brief job write up šŸ‘šŸ‘

Some of this week shenanigans, you may or may not be interested in!

1. Dragged the idiot brick machine out, ready for when it eventually stops raining. You would have thought with all the arguing we did last year, that it would be a case of oil up and send. WRONG.. 7 hours of hammering, freeing off, swearing and cleaning up knotters later… it might, just might give us a hassle free harvest. I’m an optimist, but I’m not convinced… we shall see, that’s the trouble with this brand new kit! 🫢🫢

2,3,4. Good to be back at one of my old customers, replacing hub seals and bearings on this Deutz tele handler. Caught just in the nick of time!

5,6,7. This saw bench / torture machine was revving absolutely flat out to the point it was about to šŸ’„! One siezed butterfly was the culprit. Unfortunately no saving this, new carb on order! Also spotted this wing nut in the inlet side of the head 🤦 Wing nut belong on engine, not in engine!

8,9. Re-commissioned this absolutely mint Mountfield after being stood for a number of years. With the right gang of lads and a few trailers she’ll easily forage 300acres/day of grass. 🤌

10. It’s 2024 and Zig has taken the bold decision to identify as a bat. It hasn’t affected our working relationship, we’ve just gotta kerb the hanging up side down from the light fittings at home. šŸ¦‡

Some of the victims from this week…

1,2. Recently acquired MF3065 requiring quite a bit to be ready for summer.. including a partial re-wire, new tyre, new lift pump. Debating whether to fully restore this or not.

3,4. JD 3720 not ran for 5 years, bit of a hospital job for a mate, but looks like it’s been sat at the bottom of the ocean. After a good clean up of wiring and fuse box terminals, faulty pto switch and replacement transmission pump it now runs and drives… but potential head gasket incoming 🫄.

5,6,7. Dad’s MF575 getting an original MF80 loader fitted. Just currently adding in 2 extra spool valve slices for the loader itself. Along with some fancy new pipes and quick release couplings. Nearly done.

8. Manitou lift pump failure required some ā€œagricultural engineeringā€ to get us going. Customer more than happy to keep the bodge 🤪.

9. Snapper Ride-on deck requiring a full set of bearings after trying to smash itself to pieces.

10. Dog slept ALOT! Now has moss constantly in beard!! 🐶.

Old stuff is just COOL.. end of!! This TED20 has been family owned from new and hadn’t been used for a number of years. A non starter and snapped PTO. A good carb clean out was required and a general going over. New PTO drive and over run clutch also fitted. Good for another 75 years šŸšœšŸ˜Ž. I’d like to see something new last this long…

No fuses + rubbed through wiring = much fire! šŸ”„

Hopefully not now for this beast…
āœ… Re-wired
āœ… Ignition and charging circuit fused
āœ… New ignition barrel
āœ… I get a new wig

Job done!

All about electrics so far this week šŸ’”āš”ļø..

1. Made up a standalone tramline control system for this Sabre drill. Using switches, relays and stepper motors…meaning the driver can switch off a coulter to allow wheelings for the sprayer etc. Apart from the lights, this is the only bit of electrics on the machine… simples.

2. Made up ā€œlow level warning systemā€ for the hopper on this Moore seed drill. Using a combine tank level sensor, relays and BIG RED FLASHING light 🚨. A lot harder to ignore/override than the factory system. 🚨

3. Fitted extra LED work lights and sorted out a whole treasure chest of burnt out, rubbed through, corroded and bodged wiring on this Muir Hill 121. Totally original and the coolest hedge cutting tractor I’ve ever seen. 🚜
