What I do – and what I don’t

As a Nutritional Therapist and postmenopause expert, I often get asked what kind of support I offer.

In fact, this post was triggered by a conversation I had this week, so let me tell you...

What I don’t do:

❌ Meal plans
❌ Calorie counting
❌ Diets
❌ Scales
❌ Supplements as a first step

What I do instead is get to the root of what’s going on in your body.

I assess:

✅Your food and nutrition
✅Gut health
✅Food sensitivities
✅Your microbiome
✅Immune system
✅Hormones (stress, thyroid, insulin – the whole lot!)
✅Toxins and infections
✅Blood results
✅Cardiometabolic risk
✅And yes... even your poo! 💩

All of this is shaped by science, functional medicine, and your personal health story.

And to bring it all together, I’ve created a brand-new programme:
Be Well Now and Later – with the DEEDS You Do Postmenopause

It’s designed for postmenopausal women dealing with things like:

🤒High cholesterol
🤒Type 2 diabetes
🤒High blood pressure
🤒Osteoporosis
🤒Thyroid problems
🤒Gut issues

All the things we’re more exposed to after menopause.

Ready to feel well now and later? Let’s talk about what’s really going on in your body and how I can help you thrive, not just survive, postmenopause.

Type DEEDS below if you need help.

🧪 What's Functional Testing and how it can benefit your health and wellbeing?

Traditional lab tests are great, but they don’t always tell the full story.

A recent client, a 70-year-old woman, came to me after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism and prescribed levothyroxine (synthetic hormone). She complained from tiredness, being always cold, and was struggling to lose weight. She was also under significant stress (both mental and physical) after an accident.

In addition, she'd been skipping meals and fasting for long hours as she was trying to lose weight.

We ran advanced functional tests, including a comprehensive thyroid panel, and this is what we found:

😃 Her hormone production was actually optimal.
🤨 The issue was in the conversion to the active form of the hormone, something standard blood tests don’t show.

✅ Fortunately, we can support that conversion with nutrition and lifestyle and no long-term meds were required.

✅ Functional testing gave us clarity and helped creating a targeted personalised health and wellbeing plan.

That’s why my new programme, 🌟 Be Well Now and Later with the DEEDS You Do Postmenopause 🌟 includes functional testing to uncover what’s really going on.

❓ Curious? Comment “DEEDS” below and I’ll share more details with you.

Why am I talking about it?

Cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, thyroid problems, belly fat, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease…

Women in postmenopause are more prone to those conditions.

I’m pleased that many more women in their 40s these days are aware of the perimenopause and they can connect their symptoms to that stage in their lives.

However, there is not much said about what happens after menopause and how it can impact the lives of women.

The change in estrogens plus the stress and certain lifestyle and nutritional habits accumulated throughout the years, lead to metabolic changes causing a variety of chronic health conditions.

👉 Some years back, a study showed that the healthy life expectancy of women may differ 11.5 years from their life expectancy.

👉 In a nutshell, women may live 11.5 years of their life in poor health or disability.

I’m determined to help women in postmenopause feel great and I have created a brand-new programme:

💥 Be Well Now and Later with the DEEDS You Do Postmenopause 💥

More on this very soon.

😀Yay, this made my day

🙏Thanks very much for the lovely testimonial, dear client 🙏

"My new year’s resolution was to lose weight, not for the first time. In order not to celebrate my resolution with a burger and chips takeaway on the 5th January, I knew I needed help and contacted Nuria.

I truly benefited from her body reset program. She changed my approach to food and I have been able to lose a stone without calorie counting, hunger or anxiety.

Getting to my desired weight will take a while, but it doesn’t matter as Nuria has taught me how to enjoy healthy food. Cauliflower kedgeree, miso aubergine or awesome vegetable tray bakes are now regulars on my table and my kids are also enjoying it.

As a side benefit I also feel more energised.

I would have no hesitation recommending Nuria Rodriguez if you want to experience a healthy, happy life"

👉 My next Body Reset Programme starts in April 25th.
👇 Say RESET in the comments if you feel curious about the programme.

😷 A new pandemic in 2050

😨 You might have heard of it or not but atrial fibrillation cases are in the rise to the point that some doctors have said it will be the new pandemic in 25 years’ time.

💔 It is a type of arrhythmia that causes irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm and it may increase the risk of stroke.

❓ Why is it becoming more prevalent?

Age is a main factor (and we live longer) BUT it’s followed by other modifiable factors like:

🤒 hypertension

🤒 obesity

🤒 diabetes

😬 lifestyle

In the last few months, I’ve known of 6 cases including my mum 😔

And more and more younger people are getting it too.

🖐 Say yes in the comments if you know someone suffering from atrial fribillation or arrhythmia.

‘I have high blood pressure and cholesterol. It runs in my family, so I have to accept it’, I heard the other day.

Is genetics your excuse to do nothing?

🗣️ Cardiologists have said that 70% of the time, issues like diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol can be managed by lifestyle.

🏋‍♀️ To confirm this, research has shown recently some of the mechanisms by which exercise and fasting contributes to a reduction of cholesterol in the blood.

❓ Is your cholesterol high despite a healthy lifestyle?

Celebrating a week of:

🙌 Clients’ breakthroughs
🙌 Own business breakthroughs
🙌 Group programme and a webinar delivery
🙌 Great networking and productive conversations

I felt I deserved a chicory cuppa with a couple of my favourite easy-to-make-biscuits (see recipe) 😋 👇

Ingredients:
👉 2 ripe bananas
👉 200g of almond meal
👉 6-8 chopped dates/a handful of raisins (optional)

Method:
1. Blend the bananas with a hand blender or mash them with a fork.
2. Mix all the ingredients together.
3. Shape up the dough in the form of biscuits and put them on oven tray lined with baking paper.
4. Pre-heat the oven at 170C and bake the biscuits for 10-15 minutes or until they get the nice colour as in the photo.

I feel it’s important to celebrate, not just the achievements but the steps forward in the process.

What are you celebrating?

🤔 Why postmenopausal women have a greater risk of developing a cardiovascular disease than pre-meno?

🥺 When oestrogen levels fall, their protective mechanism goes away with them.

😫 In addition, menopause may promote changes in the body that have an impact in the risk of cardiovascular disease, including:

• Body composition
• Change in weight and fat distribution
• Increased fat around the middle and the visceras (including the heart)
• Reduced glucose control and insulin sensitivity
• Increased blood pressure

📣 We talk a lot about menopause and the symptoms but,
❌ there is no much awareness about what might happen next.

💡 A beloved friend used to say “I’m not worried about menopause but about what’s coming after”

To increase awareness and support postmenopausal women, I have created an online workshop:

💖 “3 Steps to Support Your Heart Health After Menopause”

📆 Come along on Today, 6 February at 7pm.

See the link to access the event in the comments below. I'd love you to join me.

Are you a woman?

This is for you.

💔 Cardiovascular disease is responsible for 35% of deaths in women each year worldwide.

👩 It can affect women of any age, and the risk increases after menopause.

🩺 Cardiovascular disease doesn’t happen from one day to the next and more awareness and screening is needed, as the American College of Cardiology has said.

🦾 To increase awareness, I have created an online workshop.

📆 Come along and join the session on
Thursday, 6 of Feb at 7pm (GMT).

See details of the workshop and how to join in the comments below.

❓ Do you know someone with high cholesterol, high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease in their family?

Hi!
I'm coming back from a sabbatical on FB.
My clinical practice is evolving and so is my personal experience.

Therefore, you'll hear me talking a lot about heart health, glucose, osteoporosis, dementia...all those conditions that we, women, are at greater risk in the POST-menopause stage of life and beyond.

Thanks for reading and see you soon!
