“School shouldn’t feel this hard…”

If your child (aged 7+) is struggling with anxiety, refusing to go to school, or feeling overwhelmed by everyday life—you’re not alone.

After 17 years working in education, including supporting pupils with additional needs, I’ve seen how deeply emotional challenges can affect both children and their families.

That’s why I now offer dedicated support for children and young people as a Clinical Hypnotherapist.

✔ Emotional Based School Avoidance (where a child wants to attend school but feels unable to due to anxiety or distress)
✔ Confidence & emotional resilience

Hypnotherapy works by gently helping children understand and manage their thoughts and feelings, while building practical tools and techniques they can use in everyday life. Over time, this supports resilience, emotional regulation, and a greater sense of control—skills that don’t just help now, but stay with them into adolescence and adulthood.

There is a growing body of research highlighting the positive effects of clinical hypnotherapy for children and adolescents, particularly in supporting anxiety, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.

I know that accessing support for children’s mental health can sometimes involve long waiting times. Hypnotherapy can offer a more immediate, supportive option, and young people often respond very well to this approach, sometimes requiring fewer sessions than adults.

I provide a calm, supportive space where children can begin to feel safer, more in control, and better able to cope.

Many children today feel overwhelmed by school pressures, fears or anxious thoughts. As a Clinical Hypnotherapist and former teacher with 17 years of experience, I specialise in helping children and teenagers develop calm, confidence and emotional resilience.

A lot of the things people judge themselves for — anxiety, habits, avoidance, overwhelm — aren’t personal failings.
They’re signs of a system that’s been in survival mode for too long.

Stress doesn’t always look dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like sugar cravings, smoking to regulate, drinking to switch off, or avoiding things like flying or driving because your body doesn’t feel safe.

This work isn’t about forcing change.
It’s about helping the nervous system settle, so change can happen naturally.

Posting my first face-to-camera video wasn’t easy.
My inner critic had a lot to say.
Not yet. You’re not ready. You don’t look right.

But growth doesn’t wait for perfect confidence.
Sometimes it begins with a small brave step forward.

This year I chose Action not to push myself harder
but to gently keep moving when anxiety tries to freeze me.

If you’re in a season where you want to grow
but feel stuck unseen or overwhelmed
a single word can act as an anchor
something your nervous system can return to
without pressure or expectation.

I’ve written more about why choosing a word for the year can be so supportive

My Year in Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This year stretched me in ways I didn’t expect — emotionally, mentally and personally. Watching my children grow and my role shift wasn’t easy, but it taught me so much about mindset, courage and growth.

I learnt just how powerful the brain is. When my mindset was positive, I moved forward; when anxiety and limiting beliefs crept in, I paused. The reminder? Thoughts shape outcomes.

Starting a meditation group was one of the bravest things I’ve ever done and working 1-2-1 with clients has been a true privilege. I stepped outside my comfort zone with branding photos, gained confidence and realised I no longer need to put myself in a box — confidence is a mindset, and it starts with courage.

Working in inspiring women-owned studios, finding flexibility between teaching, business and family, and falling in love with the Scottish outdoors have all been huge highlights. No more guilt — just gratitude.

As this year closes, take a moment to look back at your photos and really see how much you’ve achieved. Growth is often clearer clearer in hindsight ✨
