Usually, we have a week's break in the last week of May to coincide with the school half term holidays. Instead, please join me on Tues 27 May 6.00-7.15pm at Woodcote Village Hall for a class in aid of The Prison Phoenix Trust. It's a donate-what-you-would-like class. All welcome, no need to book, just turn up. You can pay as normal - by card reader, cash or online, and I will donate the total amount - and let you know how much you have raised!

The Prison Phoenix Trust encourages prisoners in the development of their spiritual welfare, through the practices of meditation and yoga, working with silence and the breath. It offers personal support to prisoners around the UK and the Republic of Ireland through teaching, workshops, correspondence, books and newsletters – and to prison staff too. The charity works with people of any faith, or of none, and it honours all religions.

I joined the charity about 3 months ago as their part-time Administrator, and the work they do is transformative. Through yoga and meditation, people in prison discover hope, healing, and a chance to rebuild their lives. If you listen to BBC Radio 4, you may have heard our recent Radio 4 Appeal, supported by actor Jeremy Irons. As he says, "It’s such a simple way to give people the structure and the grounding to begin to get themselves right." 💪💙 Find out more about the charity's work below

The Prison Phoenix Trust supports yoga and meditation for the rehabilitation of people in prison, training teachers and supporting individuals

I ordered some beautiful primula dodecatheon last year at Chelssa Flower Show from the gorgeous stand by . When they arrived, they'd suffered a bit from unforeseen local postal delays, so I potted them up and hoped for the best. All have overwintered, died down as they were meant to, and grown strongly through spring, with these two beauties the first to flower ❤️

Hasn't the cherry blossom been amazing this year? It is a wonderful and welcome sight I think. Glorious. And a good reminder to pause and enjoy the simple pleasures that life can bring. 2025 classes continue this week, starting tomorrow, Tues 22nd April at Woodcote Village Hall for a 5-week term (22nd April - 20 May inclusive), £9 drop-in or £40 for the term. All welcome!

I shall, though, be away on Tues 6 May, and I hope that one of my yoga colleagues can cover this class. If I am unable to find cover, then those of you who pay for the term can carry that class over into the following term, which runs from Tues 3 June - Tues 22 July (an 8-week term).

Do bring or wear warm layers and a blanket to help keep you cosy for relaxation. It's easier to peel off a layer if you get too hot than not have enough to keep you warm.

During this 2-week break from Tuesday classes, I've been helping Withymead Nature Reserve, between Goring and South Stoke, get ready for its open season. Yesterday, I was spring cleaning the study centre with a colleague, in advance of our first Cream Tea Sunday (27th April 🥰) and afterwards we took a walk around the reserve. It's looking so, so beautiful at the moment. Do visit if you can. Open every Sunday til the end of August, and on Fridays for bookable 2-hour private visits. Entry is free, donations welcome.

The sun is shining! We're going straight into the next block of teaching this evening (Tues 18th Feb) at Woodcote Village Hall, as there is no break this time for half term. It's a 5-week term that takes us up to 25th March. For those that like to plan ahead, we then have a one-off drop-in for Tues 1st April (not an April fool 😁), and then we have an Easter break, and start back on 22nd April. See you on the mat!

Free this Sunday? The British Wheel of Yoga South are holding a one day workshop at Upper Basildon village hall with different classes/explorations. It is ticketed, though you don't have to be a member to attend. It's a great opportunity to delve a little deeper into the art and science of yoga. More info on how to book below.

Workshop announcement! BWY South Sangha

We are very excited to have Wendy Teasdill, (aka Bendy Wendy Bird) leading 'The Klesha's from obstacles to stepping stones' yoga workshop at the BWY South Sangha.

Wendy is a BWY Yoga Teacher Trainer with 40+ years of experience. She is also a writer specialising in Travel, Yoga Philosophy and the transformation of grief.

'The Klesha's from obstacles to stepping stones' - Life in the material world positively demands that we engage with our kleshas: almost against our better instincts sometimes we can find ourselves buying into a narrative whose premise is ignorance. The bright lights of capitalism encourage us to attach ourselves to possessions and status as indicators of how important and successful we are, to avoid that which is unpleasant and to do all that we can to live our best lives and to forget about death.

And so we prance through our parts in this theatre of the absurd despite irrefutable evidence that we all die in the end. Books on anti-ageing, exercise regimes, skin-creams and elixirs promising eternal youth proliferate and yet – we might be better off just engaging with our yoga practice, dismantling the illusions and accepting our mortality with grace. It's not practical to go and live in a cave, but within our hearts and on our mats we can develop insights to help us accept the paradox of illusion for what it is: an instrument for transformation.

So interesting.... want to find out more? Book a place to join us for an amazing, transformational day of yoga at the BWY South Sangha.
