A recent BBC report has put to the spotlight back on ear wax removal being largely unregulated in the UK, meaning people can have their ears cleared by someone with little to no clinical training.

This puts patients at risk of injury, infection or even hearing damage because unqualified providers aren’t trained to recognise underlying issues or treat complications safely.

Westbury Christmas Tree Festival 🎄

Don't forget that the popular annual Christmas Tree Festival is returning to All Saints’ Church in Westbury this weekend, with around 50 decorative trees on display - including one from South West Hearing Care.

The event is taking place on Friday 5th December from 2pm to 7pm, Saturday 6th December from 10am to 7.30pm, and Sunday 7th December from 11am to 4pm.

There will be various musical entertainments throughout the weekend, including the Fairground Organ playing in the churchyard on Saturday 6th December.

On Sunday 7th December, there will also be a Christingle Service at 4pm, where children will be given Christingle oranges.

Last week our Audiologist Cathy Cass (centre) and Trainee Audiologist Ele Kendall (right) represented South West Hearing Care as they attended the annual AIHHP.org Expo, near Oxford.

The event is run by the Association of Independent Hearing Healthcare Practitioners, a key organisation representing the very best in independent audiology across the UK.

It was a great chance for them to explore new technology, learn from industry experts, and strengthen their professional skills — all of which helps us continue delivering high-quality, independent hearing care to our community.

🌟 Meet Anna – The friendly face of our new Crewkerne practice! 🌟

We’re delighted to introduce Anna Furniss, the newest member of our South West Hearing Care family and the welcoming receptionist you’ll meet when you visit our brand-new Crewkerne clinic.

Anna brings a genuine warmth and a real passion for supporting people’s wellbeing — one of the many reasons she’s such a perfect fit for our independent, community-focused team. When she's not helping patients feel at ease, you’ll find her diving into historical novels and whodunnits, exploring architectural salvage yards, or browsing antique shops.

She also loves getting out for coastal and countryside walks, spotting local birdlife, and caring for her wonderfully quirky menagerie at home, including her rooster Rory, ten hens, and her much-loved three-legged cat.

We’re thrilled to have Anna on board as we continue to grow our presence in Crewkerne and deliver the warm, personal hearing care our community deserves.
