I was a visit to the Pier Arts Centre yesterday as its the first weekend of the Christmas Open Exhibition. Lovely to see my two pieces on the wall, the start of my Papay series 😊. What a lot of amazing work to be seen! 😍😮🌟. There are so many talented folk in Orkney.

Please go a visit if you can, it is on till Christmas eve.

A very enjoyable walk at Mull Head this morning. Great for clearing the head, and mulling over ideas! 😊😌.

I was having fun yesterday with the gelli plate and a piece of seaweed I picked up in Papay! I love the shape, tree or roots like which appealed to me. There were mixed results as it was diffucult to get it to lie flat to print! Though the bonus was that it looks cool with the paint on it 😍. I am wondering if it's possible to use the seaweed in a mixed media piece, how to preserve?! 🤔🤷‍♀️😆.

A few Papay pics from my recent jaunt! Getting some final creative bits together for my project. Always lovely to be there 😊. Surprisingly nice enough on the day I arrived to be in a t-shirt on the beach! Decided against getting my toes in the water though 😏😂.

The finished piece! (I think!). I used an iridescent thread which is unfortunately hard to show in a pic, but gives it another slight shimmer. Handstitching is a lovely calming process (as long as no blood is shed!). I was thinking of my walk to the Knap of Howar on Papay, as the lines represent, as I was doing this. Looking forward to getting back there soon I hope 😌.

Listening to Enya - Caribbean Blue as I stitch my paper...it should be Papay Green! 🤔😍💚💙🤣🤣.

An inky experiment to see how I can layer my ideas. Keeping it reasonably simple 😁.

Eventually managed to go through some of my inky play pieces from my last trip to Papay! Happy with this one but not quite sure which way round looks best?! 🤔😁. One of the pieces I made while down at the Old pier, using inks with sea water and seaweed to make marks. Inspired by the beautiful colours around there 😌💚💙.

The beautiful and atmospheric south wick beach, Papa Westray 😍.

Had such a lovely day spending some time in the east byre at Hundland, Papay 😊. Playing with my inks, using dried seaweed to make marks, writing, and thinking about where to go creatively after all the experimenting and gathering of natural materials. Trying to go with the flow and not pressure myself to think of something super complicated! Sometimes the simplest ideas and compositions are the best 😀.

I love laying out my finds on the windowsill to see how they look together. Thinking about what attracted me to them, colours, textures, shapes, unusual marks...all things to inspire! In Papay again to further ideas for my project. Lucky me 😊.
