๐ Animal Wellness ๐
Over the years I have treated a lot of elderly dogs - often classed as geriatric, which means those needing additonal help and support
Alot of this work actually involves working closely with owners to show them that there is actually alot we can do to support these golden oldies and improve their quality of life.
I often hear people say of their dogs "oh he just sleeps a lot now.....its to be expected, he is old" or "she has lost interest in her toys.....she's just old"
BUT, it doesn't need to be this way!
As well as offering Bowen therapy, Reiki and massage to my canine clients, I look at additonal ways to support the dog at home. This will include;
* working closely with the dog's Vet to ensure the dog has had a health check and is on any appropriate medication - pain relief is very important for older dogs with mobility issues such as OA
* Home exercises to target building strength, balance, proprioception, co-ordination
* Stretching and joint mobilisation exercises
* Mental stimulation work - especially beneficial for dogs with mobility issues as well as supporting cognitive function
Canine cognitive dysfunction (dementia) is a real condition that affects some dogs and can be characterised by pacing in the evening, confusion. This is another topic I can discuss with owners to find ways to help support these dogs ๐
I can also offer laser therapy to help relieve joint pain caused by OA and more.
This is all under my term "Animal Wellness" ......it goes beyond just a hands on treatment, but is about supporting the dog in a truly holistic way and will include the owners too. ๐
