Michael began practicing Hatha Yoga through Hot Yoga (Hatha Yoga postures performed in a heated environment) in 2012.

Suited to the time, Anukala Yoga Community (AYC) is your comprehensive source for all things Yoga, delivering relevant Yogic methods and Eastern philosophy to modern practitioners. Before moving on to practice with Isha Foundation. After training in Ayurvedic Yoga Massage, Hypnotherapy and other Holistic practices, he left his 19-year career in the hospitality industry and travelled to India to become certified to teach Yoga, in early 2020. During the 2 1/2 years spent living in the country’s jungles, temples and ashrams, Michael trained in various spiritual disciplines and, under his Guru's guidance, became certified to teach Yogasanas, pranayam and meditative techniques. Michael has now returned to the UK to share the knowledge and training he acquired with others interested in learning the time-honoured, exact science of Yoga.

Dear Anukala Members,

Thank you again for your support across 2025, it has been lovely to retain those that have been with me since the start and meet and get to know those new faces who have joined over the last 12 months.

As some may be already aware, I will be heading back to India in 2026. There is no fixed date, but I’m aiming for around the middle of the year which will give us, roughly, 6 more months together. I hope that you will continue to support the classes until then, and of course there is always social media and various other channels to keep in touch nowadays, so I can still answer questions and continue to support you in your personal Yoga practice even after I depart for the ashram.

There are two changes to the Class Timetable for 2026 with two classes coming to an end. There will no longer be a Monday Morning Yoga class in Rodborough or a Tuesday Evening Yoga Class in Rodborough in the New Year. Tuesday Morning’s Yoga Class and Wednesday Evening’s Yoga Class in Rodborough will continue as normal and hopefully, by joining the two morning and evening classes together, we can enjoy more people in both classes.

Prices are also slightly increasing from the 1st Jan 2026. The ‘Drop-in’ cost for a class will rise from £10 to £13 and the cost for a Loyalty Card (6 classes) will increase from £50 to £65. I apologise for any inconvenience in regard to this matter and hope that it does not deter you from attending in the future.

👋 Hi Anukala Members,

Just to inform you all that we have changed venues in Ruscombe, for our Yoga classes and are nicely settling in to our new location, just down the road at, Whiteshill & Ruscombe Village Hall, The Plain, Stroud, GL6 6AB.

Class times remain the same -
Monday: 7pm - 8:30pm
Friday: 9:30am - 11am.

Please keep an eye out for St. Paul’s Church and you’ll find us in the building adjacent. Any difficulties, please give me a call on 07706 027344

My gratitude and thanks to the School Room for their kind support across our years together and we wish them every success in their future endeavours. It is a beautiful building with heaps of character and wonderful memories that you have added to.

A devastating flash flood, triggered by non-stop rainfall, has caused immense damage to Dharali and the villages that surround it. Our prayers are with every one living in the area, those who have been affected and India as a whole.

May the Lord have mercy and allow those stuck to be rescued with no further loss of life.

I hope that all members of Anukala Yoga Community living in the Uttarakhand and who have family in the area are safe, as well as their loved ones. You are in our thoughts.

śodhana (शोधन) means purification, cleansing, or refining and in this pranayam the practice purifies the channels (Nadis) that our energy travels through in our sūkṣma śarīra (Subtle body).
This in turn, balances hormones, improves the functioning of the respiratory system and enhances our capability to draw in more oxygen, leading to greater peace of mind and well-being.
