I recently came back to England for a couple of months, and whilst on a walk, I took this picture. It reminded me of a lecture by Prof. Robert Sapolsky. He said in a brief summary, depressed people cannot appreciate sunsets. How are you with sunsets?

"You’re going to realize it one day — that happiness was never about your job, or your degree, or being in a relationship. Happiness was never about following in the footsteps of all of those who came before you, it was never about being like the others. One day, you’re going to see it — that happiness was always about the discovery, the hope, the listening to your heart and following it wherever it chose to go. Happiness was always about being kinder to yourself, it was always about embracing the person you were becoming. One day, you will understand. That happiness was always about learning how to live with yourself, that happiness was never in the hands of other people. It was always about you. It was always about you."

Moving towards secure attachment for couples is so important, most couples who see me are not securely attached. What does secure attachment in relationships look like?

How did I get to this point? Psychotherapist. BACP member and UK Registered.
The journey started further back than I had originally realised. I was seeing people back as far as the late 80’s, doing my own thing, I was working with peoples problems back then. I did not become a fully qualified therapist until much later.
It was quite a shock to me when my own personal therapist said to me ‘you do realise that you have been working as a therapist, dont you?’. From that point of realisation, I set about changing my life (I was a full time engineer) and returning to study, I went to university in my 50’s, taking my first university course in 2009. I still love research and study today, its part of my job.
I decided to specialise and attended Universities in Scotland for advanced training in Emotion Focused Therapy. My study journey continues, this is always work in progress.
Last year I travelled to Vancouver, British Columbia. The city is a wonderful city that houses some of the most troubled people and difficult psychological problems. Im particularly interested in the effects of environment on people. Outside of the city the problems change to the plights of the indigenous people of Canada, first nations. It was a fascinating on the ground study of environmental issues in psychological problems.
This year my business went from strength to strength, seeing many different issues and particularly the changing attitudes to mental health. Unfortunately the position with the govenment and mental health is not currently ideal. I have had meetings with MP’s and people on the front line, its not an easy position for anybody.
I continue to practice in Sudbury Suffolk and Colchester Essex.
