A Day in the Life of… Belinda Moroney – Deputy Manager 💜
My alarm is set for 6am… along with several backup alarms, because let’s be honest, mornings and I have never been friends. The dark winter ones feel like an extra challenge.
I ease into the day with my essentials: a good cup of coffee ☕ and a scan through my emails and Teams messages so I know what I’m walking into.
One big perk of this stage in life is that my children are grown with families of their own, so the morning rush doesn’t involve organising anyone but myself — a luxury I don’t take for granted.
I usually arrive at the office around 7:30. Rhiannon often beats me to it, and we grab a few minutes to catch up on anything urgent. Those quiet early moments, before the rest of the team arrives, are gold — perfect for getting focused and working without interruption.
No two days ever look the same, which is one of the reasons I love my job. I line-manage 34 team members, so my diary is… full, to put it mildly.
Luckily, I have Scott, who miraculously keeps my schedule organised and reminds me who I’m meeting, when, and why. His support has been a game-changer and gives me precious time to properly prepare for the team.
My days are a whirlwind of phone calls, emergencies, meetings, spreadsheets, care plans, new client introductions, staff dropping in “just for a chat,” and a healthy amount of laughter. There are moments of sadness, plenty of joy, and a deep sense of pride when we see something wonderful happening for our clients or within our 1 Oak family.
I’ve worked in health and social care for far more years than I’m willing to admit — my entire career. I began as a nurse, spent 25 years in that world, then moved into social care. I eventually became Deputy Manager in a care home, a role I held for 12 years, including through the COVID years.
If I’m honest, by the end of that time I had fallen out of love with care.
Joining 1 Oak changed that. This supportive team brought back the spark I thought I’d lost, and I’m grateful for it every day.
At the end of the day, I head home for a video call with my daughter and my 11-month-old grandson, who absolutely lights up my life. Time with them — whether chatting, visiting, or babysitting — is something I treasure.
Some evenings I head to yoga, which helps me clear my mind and properly relax.
Sometimes, after I’ve settled in for the night, Rhiannon and I touch base — working through a situation, handling a last-minute emergency, or just checking in to make sure each other is okay.
By 10pm, I’m usually in bed, ready to recharge so I can get up and do it all again tomorrow — and honestly, long may that continue.
