Today is International Midwife Day!
A big shout out to the midwives who were there to support me during the births of my children. Although not all at the same time. My birth journey started 23 years ago. Being pregnant and birth became a bit of pringle moment "Once you pop, you can't stop! " Each pregnancy completely different. Each with it's own need of care.
There were of course ups and downs and differences in opinion on how I could or should look after myself during my pregnancy. I felt supercharged and empowered that I was creating life, I was carrying a miracle made out of love. Nothing could stop me. I had all my babies at hospital. I didn't know there was an alternative.
Where I felt there was lack, I researched myself. I listened to the 'specialists' and where it didn't align I did it my way anyway..... I was clear about what I wanted and my midwives supported me through that the whole way through. I think for me it helped the midwives to know that I knew what I was doing. Even as a first time mum (23 years ago). I trusted mother nature was guiding me. For that and the midwives present, I am grateful!
