Straumann Cycle - Day 5: Albufeira da Barragem do Roxo to Vale do Lobo

A shorter day, but those final hills were brutal! As we’ve headed further south, the temperature has been rising – climbing yesterday felt like riding straight into an oven! But we made it to Faro and had an amazing time celebrating.

Straumann Cycle - Day 2: Sau Pedro do Sul to Pedrogão Pequeno

A shorter day, but with even tougher climbs. The morning was smooth and steady, but the afternoon brought real challenges. It started with a steep, gruelling 5 km climb straight after lunch, followed by a more manageable 8 km. The day wrapped up with a punishing 3 km ascent to the hotel, averaging an 8% gradient!

Ended the day with a well-earned ice bath to revive the legs.

Straumann Cycle - Day 1: Chaves to São Pedro do Sul

What a way to kick off with the toughest day! 164 km and 2,327 m of climbing conquered! The day started off smoothly, but the afternoon featured a gruelling 28 km climb with a 900 m elevation gain.

I’m absolutely thrilled to have pushed through and completed my first ever 100-mile day!

From 27th September to 1st October 2024, Jon Howe, along with a group of Straumann customers and staff, will take part in a challenging event. We will cycle 100 miles each day for five days, from the top to the toe of Portugal, starting in Chaves and finishing by the sea in beautiful Albufeira.

This exciting event is not just about cycling; it’s an opportunity for us to come together as a community and make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. The funds raised during this event will go directly to Dentaid. By supporting our event, you’ll be helping Dentaid purchase a new mobile dental unit so they can visit more communities across the UK.

Dentaid, The Dental Charity, provides essential dental care and oral health advice to people experiencing homelessness and other underserved communities. Their mobile dental units travel across the UK, offering outreach dental clinics to those who struggle to access treatment.

Internationally, Dentaid supports dental partners by providing portable equipment, funding outreach projects, and supporting oral health programs in communities with limited access to dental care. In Uganda, Dentaid works with public dental health officers, helping them deliver charitable outreach care to the poorest and most remote locations.
