The Great North Run 2025 was just over 5 weeks ago and is very excited to reveal that together we have raised over £45,000 for St Benedict's Hospice...so far!

We are so proud of our runners and their incredible hard work in raising every penny for our Hospice. The donations received will help us fund vital palliative care now and into the future. Thank you again runners!

So that we can recognise our runner's achievements with a thank you letter and certificate, we are asking all fundraisers to pay in any GNR fundraised donations either to their online fundraising page or in person to the Hospice by Friday 31st October. Thank you!

A huge thank you to The Seaham and District Ladies Darts and Dominos League for donating £900 to St Benedict's Hospice! 💙💛

The league have been fundraising for local charities throughout the year and presented us with this cheque at their presentation night on Friday night

Our Dedication Tree is returning to The Bridges Shopping Centre this Christmas 🎄🕯

From the 17th of November until the 30th you can come and visit us, make a donation and write your own dedication to a loved one to be hung on our tree.

Your dedications will then be moved to the Chapel at the Hospice for the Christmas period. 💙💛

We will be located outside Boots and Greggs, and we will have lots of goodies and stocking fillers for you to browse! 🎄

Donations made will enable us to continue to support local patients, their families and loved ones over the Christmas period and into 2026. 🕯

Thank you to The Bridges Shopping Centre for inviting us back to remember our loved ones for another year!

Talking about death and dying is something that we are always advocating here at St Benedict’s Hospice. Having an up-to-date will ensures that your wishes are carried out and that your loved ones are looked after.

This October local solicitors are kindly offering a free will writing service to supporters of St Benedict’s. All we ask is that those who take up this service make a donation to the hospice.

On the 2nd of August, The Seaburn Retros and friends embarked on a monumental challenge to remember their friend, Jen Deighton.

"Jen tragically lost her life to cancer earlier this year. She was an inspiring lass, loved by many and sadly missed. She loved her bike rides and this cycle goes along one of her favourite routes. With this being a night ride under stars, Jen will be looking down on us and saying "go on you class lot" "

The team completed a 70 mile nighttime ride from Brampton to Sunderland, finishing at Jen's salon, raising an incredible £21,071 for St Benedict's Hospice!

Thank you so much to everyone involved in this heart-warming show of community and support in memory of Jen; the total raised will help us continue to provide free specialist care to Sunderland and the surrounding communities

Another thank you to Richard Reed Solicitors for supporting the Team with a £500 sponsorship.

Join us on Saturday 11th October at Cheers Bar, Sunderland from 6pm for the IWF's Reign of Terror Charity Match. It'll be an evening of family friendly entertainment all whilst supporting your local Hospice.

The 6th - 12th of October is Hospice Care Week. This year's theme is "Hospice Care is more than you think" and explores the parts of Hospice care that may not always be thought of.

"Hospice care isn’t only about managing pain and symptoms on a hospice ward. It is often about the things that make life better for the person and their family outside of the hospice’s building.

The things that someone might have once loved doing, but now struggles to because of their illness. Like going to their favourite café, seeing a sports match, taking a day trip to the beach, or even just getting out into their own garden."
